What is the Social Security payment center?

What Functions Do The Program Service Centers Perform? Program service centers act as processing centers. They make formal decisions as to entitlement on many claims for Social Security benefits, including disability benefits, hospital insurance benefits, and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits.

How long does the Social Security payment center take?

If approved for SSDI, you claim will be processed through your local payment processing center. The amount of time it takes to receive your benefits is generally around one month, but is dependent upon the workload at the processing center.

Can you pay Social Security over the phone?

You can call us at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778) or contact your local Social Security office.

How can I speak to someone at my local Social Security office?

You can find the phone number for your local office by using our Office Locator. You can call our National 800 Number at 1-800-772-1213 between 8:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
