Frequently asked questions about your FSA

A service or expense must be incurred before it is eligible for reimbursement. An FSA expense is considered “incurred” when the service is performed, not when you pay for the service. The service also must be performed during your participation in the plan. Services or expenses incurred before or after your plan participation dates do not qualify for reimbursement.

How do I check my FSA balance?

Simply log in to your FSAFEDS online account at any time to manage all aspects of your Health Care FSA: Check account balances. Submit claims and view claims status. Look up eligible expenses.

How do I use my health care flexible spending account?

You use your FSA by submitting a claim to the FSA (through your employer) with proof of the medical expense and a statement that it has not been covered by your plan. You will then receive reimbursement for your costs. Ask your employer about how to use your specific FSA.

How do I get cash from my FSA card?

Unfortunately, FSA cards cannot be used to withdraw FSA funds from an ATM. These cards can only be used directly on qualifying medical products and services. This comes from the fact that FSA funds are pre-tax and cash cannot be easily monitored for eligible purchases.

Can I go over my FSA balance?

May I carry over a balance of up to $550 if my maximum Healthcare FSA contribution limit is less than $2,750? Yes, the $550 (depending on your employer's plan) carryover option is available for any Healthcare FSA contribution level your employer elects.
