Camshaft position sensor jeep grand cherokee

@crazymomma you did not tell us the engine size for your GC. Here is some imformation from a service manual. Should make it pretty straight forward. On the 4.0 the Camshaft Position Sensor (CMP) is bolted to the top of the oil pump drive shaft assembly. The sensor and drive shaft assembly is located on the right side of the engine near the oil filter.

REMOVAL - SENSOR ONLY

* Disconnect electrical connector at CMP sensor.

* Remove 2 sensor mounting bolts.

* Remove sensor from oil pump drive.

On the 4.7L engine the Camshaft Position Sensor (CMP)is bolted to the front/top of the right cylinder head.

  • It is easier to remove/install sensor from under vehicle.
  • Raise and support vehicle.
  • Disconnect electrical connector at CMP sensor.
  • Remove sensor mounting bolt.
  • Carefully pry sensor from cylinder head in a rocking action with two small screwdrivers.
  • Check condition of sensor O-ring.

What happens when a camshaft sensor goes out?

Poor Drivability A failing camshaft position sensor begins losing its ability to quickly transfer data. Mismatched fuel delivery and ignition timing, even if off by a few milliseconds, will cause your vehicle to sputter, accelerate poorly, lack power, stall or even shut off.

How much does it cost to replace a camshaft sensor?

Camshaft Position Sensor Replacement Cost To replace a camshaft position sensor, you can expect to pay anywhere from $95 to $200. Parts alone will run about $25 to $100. Labor costs will be in the range of $70 to $100 for professional replacement.
