Something to tell my baby dave matthews lyrics

level 1

It was nice hearing the string instruments with Dave’s guitar… I’ll leave it at that.

Where is Will Nelson to tell Dave, "I can't wait to hear it when it's finished!"

level 1

Agree with many. This is not good. These entire-song falsettos are tiresome and melodically this one’s got nothing there. Lyrics feel like an awkward overlay. I’m still keeping hopes up for the new album but have some major doubts. That’s said it was for a good cause, I just think musically it’s a big miss.

level 1

This could be lovely, but the lyrics just feel so first draft. Really frustrating, because it's a lovely composition and sentiment.

level 1

You all are pathetic. The guy is putting himself out there and trying to help the best way he knows. Yet, we got dipshits here chastising him. Grow the fuck up. I like the song. I like him. I love the band.

level 2

Yeah I’m shocked by the reaction. This isn’t a song being released as a single, this is something he played to convey his sympathies for what’s happening

level 1

Please don't put this on a DMB record.

level 2

Guarantee it's the lead single

level 2

May I throw a diff opinion…I’m not a fan of the songs where it sounds like he is swallowing his voice.

level 1

lyrics need to be cleaned up a bit and I could see this being a decent song. Dave's really been writing a lot of songs about legacy, his children and 'passing the torch' in the last couple years.

level 2

Which ones are you referring to? Come Tomorrow is 4 years old and I can't think of any newer song that matches this description.

level 1

That’s a sweet topic. Song is slow and boring but nice. Needs some Carter Beauford.

level 1

Ugh. I hate this style of Dave song. Boring and detached. Dave was so much more fun in his 20’s and 30’s.

level 2

Sorry that a song he’s singing for the people being massacred and fleeing from the Ukraine isn’t more “fun”…the fuck is wrong with you

Yesterday morning (April 17), Dave Matthews was featured on CNN’s State Of The Union to share a song in support of refugees from Ukraine and the world, titled, “Something To Tell My Baby”. Before he started playing he spoke with host Jake Tapper, who was in Kyiv to interview the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Matthews said to Tapper and viewers, “It’s just unfathomable to those of us who are far from it, but it’s not only happening [in Ukraine]. It’s happening in Yemen. It’s happening in Myanmar. It’s happening in Nigeria. It’s happening in Afghanistan, It’s happening in so many places where people are just trying to survive and it’s violence that’s not allowing them to—and terrible violence.” He continued to say, “And so many of us are part of this chorus of people that are hoping we can somehow turn the tide, and so I thought I would just join in and as many ways as possible raise people’s awareness.”

Matthews then seamlessly started the song accompanied by a string section comprised of cello, viola and violin. The song, which was debuted on Feb. 20 with Tim Reynolds at Riviera Maya in Cancún, Mexico, was presented with interspersed images of refugees and live footage of Matthews’ ensemble.

The stilling and emotive call for empathy, hope and awareness began: “You know someday we’re all gonna leave here / Maybe sooner than we wanted,” the bows drawn over strings and Matthews’ tenor croonings led the song to the anaphoric musings “Something that will remind them / Something to make them smile when they think about it / Something to tell my baby.”

After the performance, Matthews brought a few organizations up to help alleviate the suffering of the people of the world including the International Rescue Committee and World Central Kitchen. The segment closed with Matthews saying, “Everybody, do what you can. And let’s take care of each other, ’cause what’s the point otherwise?”
