Many people are still struggling during these times from lack of employment, to worrying about rent, to even staying separated from those we love.

It's easy to focus on that, and be drawn into anxiety and depression thinking that our lives lack meaning, lack control. That feeling can be very disheartening. We all have those feelings and we have to tell ourselves we can’t always change what’s going on around us until we change what’s going on within us.

That’s taking back control of at least some parts of your life. We are still adhering to social distancing, many may still be self-isolating, and some businesses are still closed. But there are things we can do to take control, at least of our health.

Exercise not only changes your body. It changes your mind, your attitude, and your mood. Many think of exercise just for the physical benefits but the mental benefits are huge.

Simply put, exercise will make you feel better and helps create a positive attitude. That will give you power over your circumstances instead of your circumstances having power over you. Exercising regularly will release tension. This helps with depression and stress.

When you exercise and relieve your tension while taking care of yourself, you can’t help but be proud of your accomplishments. Yes, if you haven’t exercised in a while, you may feel some soreness. You will never find what works for you until you stick to it.

Additional benefit of sticking to an exercise routine is it will help you to develop the qualities of discipline, dedication, and determination. How many times have you started and stopped? As Babe Ruth said, “It’s hard to beat a person who never gives up.” Think about lifting that weight off your shoulders by making fitness a priority.

Even if you don’t have equipment to work out with, think about the things you CAN do. You can go for a walk or ride a bike with a friend and that will give you the feeling of connecting with someone in person. Wear a mask, social distance.

You can practice self-control by not overeating simply because you are choosing to stay inside. What is your I CAN? If you are feeling your life is a bit out of control right now, what CAN you do to take back control of your life?

Only you can stop you. It’s not about perfect. It’s about effort. When you bring that effort every day, you’ll see transformation happen. That’s how change occurs.

The biggest difference between the successful and the unsuccessful is that the successful show up and do what they gotta do even when they don’t want to do it.

Show and guess what? Excuses won’t stand a chance. Let nothing hold you back from creating the life you want. Will it be easy? Nope. Worth it? Absolutely! Sweaty? Out of breath? Body tired? Sore? GOOD, keep going…it’s working!

Take your daily stress to some type of exercise and leave it there. Stay positive. Every rep, every step brings you closer to your goals.
