Where you invest your love you invest your life lyrics

There are a few classical songs as powerful as this particular one from Mumford & Sons’ 2009 album, Sigh No More. I first discovered Mumford & Sons listening to them on the standard prison-issued Sony SRF-M35FP FM Walkman. Since coming out in 2017, I went on to ratchet up many of the band’s songs as my all-time favorites, including “The Cave,” “After The Storm,” and “Little Lion Man.” This particular one is the desperate screaming of a person to his (or her) soul, begging it to stay alive and awake.

But the banal reality, that we live in these bodies and that we die in these bodies, is what caught me off-guard from the above “Awake My Soul.” It’s such an unremarkable statement, but it is even more strengthened by what comes next: “Where you invest your love, you invest your life.” The immediate reaction to this statement is thinking back of all the people you loved so much so that you invested your life’s energy into them.

After all, that is what true love is supposed to do. It comes out of nowhere, leaves us speechless and motionless, and then too awfully and too often crushes our hearts and souls. Rare is the occasion where true love matches its counterpart, such is said of the match made in heaven.

But what about of all those we choose to love, our work, our families, and our ambitions? Investing in these objects, persons, and dreams is 90% of our lives. Putting forth full investment in them is as such warranted.

I am believer in listening to songs for their rhythm and beauty, yes. But what distinguishes songs such as the above from the mainstream is the introspective depth of the words. Mumford & Sons has helped me get through so much in life, whether it is exceeding disappointments, a resolve to stand up straight with my shoulders back, and never just accept optimism as a hopeless commodity of my future.

“And there will come a time, you'll see, with no more tears.
And love will not break your heart, but dismiss your fears.”

The fight of mine, for myself and for others, remains.

Each sign is uniquely made. There may be slight variations, such as wood graining or knots in the wood, that may look a little different than what is shown in the image. This piece is meant to have a natural, rustic style and we make no attempt to hide the natural beauty and character of wood. We take great pride in making you pieces that you will love!
