How To Speed Up A Video

Why Would You Speed Up A Video?

Most people are used to hearing audio when watching videos, but that’s not the only way you can use video to your advantage. It’s actually possible to “speed up” video, which allows you to fit more video into a smaller space.

Speeding up a video is really just a matter of increasing the playback speed of the content.

There are lots of reasons why someone might choose to speed up their video content.

For example, if you’re shooting interviews with multiple participants but don’t think that their answers will be particularly long or detailed, speeding up each person’s interview might allow them all to fit.

How To Speed Up A Video

It’s often the case that I need to watch a video at an accelerated pace. It could be a news clip on YouTube, a training course on Udemy, or a movie trailer on Apple TV+.

The built-in speed adjustment options in these apps usually only allow you to increase the speed two or three times, which isn’t fast enough.

Here are some apps that allow you to watch videos at a faster pace than normal:

  • Speed Video (iOS): Free app with no ads or in app purchases.
  • Speed Up! (iOS): Free with ads and in-app purchases.
  • Double Speed (iOS): Free with ads and in-app purchases.
  • Fast Speed (Android): Free with ads and in-app purchases.

To do this in Final Cut Pro X:

  • Select the clip you want to speed up and click on the gear icon in the lower right corner.
  • This will bring up a menu that allows you to change a number of different settings for your clip.
  • Once you have selected the option for time stretching, you can then choose exactly how much you want to speed up the clip.
  • Increase or decrease this setting until you have something that works for your needs.

Remember that as you increase this setting, individual frames of the video will be skipped, so the quality of your final product may begin to suffer.

How To Speed Up A Slo-Mo Video On Your iPhone In The Photos App

There’s a new feature in the Photos app on your iPhone that lets you speed up your slow motion videos. Slo-mo videos are generally shot at 120 frames per second, which means they play back much slower than the other videos shot at 30 frames per second.

And if you import your slo-mo videos to the Photos app, you can now speed them up to be played back at 30 fps.

Tapping on any video in your Photos app will bring up a menu with three options: Play, Edit and Share.

If you want to speed up that video, tap on “Edit” and then select “Speed.” You’ll see a frame rate of either 30 or 120 depending how fast you shot the video.

The faster option offers a slider that lets you speed up the video from 0% (to its full length) to 50%. It’s a fun way to revisit some of those super slow motion videos you’ve already taken.

Today, we’re going to show you how to speed up a slow-motion video on your iPhone. This is the only way I know of, but it works perfectly and is super easy to do.

How To Speed Up And Slow Down Video

Speed up or slow down video with Frame.IO’s native support for the Adobe After Effects Timeline.

Titles and credits in a film can be a bit tricky due to the inconsistent nature of working with words on screen. The most obvious way to play with titles is to speed them up or slow them down.

This effect can be achieved by selecting key frames on your clips and adjusting the speed of playback.

However, if you’re working with footage that has native audio, you will find it difficult to sync up your titles perfectly.

You’ll find that you have to tweak the speed of playback a lot before you get them right – and this takes time.

With Frame.IO, however, you can do this all within Adobe After Effects using Frame.IO’s integration with After Effects‘ native timeline:

Open up Adobe After Effects, load in your footage and drag it onto the timeline in your project.

Once your footage is on the timeline, use frame-by-frame scrubbing to find the frame that you want to start speeding up or slowing down your video from. Once you’ve found that frame, select it and choose “Speed” from the “Time” menu.

Trim Your Video To Just The Right Length

I talked about video length a bit in my last post on the topic. But there’s one thing I didn’t cover, and that’s how to figure out what the right length of your video is in the first place.

Trying to make a video longer just by adding more stuff is not only a failure, it can even be counter-productive. There’s a very simple reason for this: people watch less when they’re watching longer.

This is a little counter-intuitive at first, but there are some reasons for it. One is that you lose some of your audience along the way.

If your video is too long, some people will just stop watching before they hit the end. Another reason people tune out is because they get bored or impatient if they have to sit through too much material.

So what’s the sweet spot? That depends on your content, but most experts agree that 10 minutes is a good upper limit for most topics (particularly in an instructional context).

This means that if you’re making a longer video, you need to either cut down on your material or break it into multiple video parts.

And those parts should probably be no more than 5 minutes long.

Mute The Audio In Your Video Clip

There are many ways that the video content on your web pages can be enhanced through video. The power of video is such that it can be used for many different objectives, and one of the most common uses is to educate.

Video has become a very effective way to get information across as research shows that people retain more information when it’s presented in a visual format rather than textual format. That said, one of the biggest problems with using video on your site is the sound.

If you have a video clip embedded on a page and it starts playing automatically, it invariably begins with sound. This can easily put people off of watching the whole clip if they find the sound irritating or distracting.

There is an easy way to get around this problem though and that is to mute your video clips before publishing them online. This means that instead of the sound being automatically played, you will have to click on a small button first which will then play the audio automatically after you’ve clicked on it.

This allows you to completely control when people hear and don’t hear your audio content.

Share Your Edited Video Clip With Your Audience

You’ve finally finished your video, and it’s awesome. Now you want to share it with the world, but how?

YouTube is the most obvious choice, but there are other options out there that can give you better results.

Tubefilter did a great comparison of five different platforms for sharing and marketing your videos. There are plenty of other good options, but these five have some advantages over YouTube as a primary video host.

If YouTube is already an important part of your strategy, don’t worry — they cover that too:

SmashboxxTV – This is a great platform to consider if you’re looking to focus on high-quality content. They have strong analytics and monetization tools for your videos, and the site is built for sharing content in social media.

You can also make money from ad revenue sharing or via direct integration with PayPal and Google Wallet.

Biteable – This platform focuses on social media sharing of original video clips. The site has built-in analytics tools, making it easy to track performance across different social media sites like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Like YouTube and Vimeo, this site also allows you to directly monetize your videos through pre-roll ads before each clip or through integrated PayPal or Google Wallet payments.

Ready To Change The Speed Of Your Video?

Whether you record videos with a digital camera or your cell phone, you can make them much easier to watch by changing their speed.

How It Works

If you’ve ever sat through a fast-forwarded movie, you know that time dilation doesn’t work exactly the same way as in real life. In movies, time seems to slow down as more frames per second pass.

If you’re watching a movie at one-half normal speed, for example, you’ll see twice as many frames per second as usual. That extra visual information makes it easier to understand what’s going on.

To make this effect work for your regular videos, start by downloading and installing the VirtualDub program on your PC. Open any video file in VirtualDub and use its settings to increase the frame rate.

You can also double the playback speed by changing VirtualDub’s frame rate from “25” to “50.” This increases the number of frames per second that play back.

If your computer is slow or low on memory, increasing the frame rate can increase the amount of processing required for VirtualDub to function. As a result, your video might stutter when it starts playing back at high speed.

Using Imovie To Speed Up Or Slow Down A Video On Macos

If you have a video that is too fast or slow, then you can use the free tool iMovie to change the speed of the video. This is easy to do and works well with many different types of videos.

The next step is to load up your video into iMovie by selecting File > Import from Camera Roll, Photo Library, or Video Clip and choosing your file.

You can also select File > Import to bring in an existing project, though the steps are slightly different.

Adjust The Video Speed With Photos App On Windows 10

Technology is beautiful, isn’t it? But sometimes, you need to give tough time to technology and make it work for you.

The best part of technology is that it is always evolving and improving.

What if I tell you that you can also speed up or slow down the video clips on your Windows 10 PC? I know, sounds unbelievable, right? Well, this is possible now with a new feature of Photos app in Windows 10.

Here is how you can speed up or slow down the video clips in Windows 10 with the Photos app:

Custom Video Speeds

If you’ve ever watched a video on YouTube or Vimeo, you’re probably familiar with their default settings. Videos start playing automatically and adjust its speed if necessary.

But what if you want to watch a video frame by frame, or even backwards? It’s possible to slow down or speed up the playback rate of any video on either site.

Tutorial:

Step 1: Copy the link of the video you want to slow down or speed up. This can be found by hovering your mouse over the video and clicking on “copy short URL” underneath the title of the video.

Step 2: Open a new browser tab and paste the link from step 1 into it. Then add “player=1” after the “v=” in the URL, which will tell YouTube that you want it to play in HTML5, which is necessary for adjusting playback speeds.

After adding this command, your URL should look something like “http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xxxxxxxx&player=1.”

Once you’ve added that command to the end of your video’s link, click on “enter” and YouTube will open in a new tab with your original video playing at normal speed. However, if you look below it, there will be a different

Change Speed of Your Video

Let’s say you’re working on a project where you have to convey a message to your audience in a very short time. It is possible to change the speed of the video.

There are many software programs out there that allow you to do this. The most popular one is Adobe Premier.

However, if you don’t have access to this program and still want to be able to slow down your video, here are some ways you can do it with free programs:

Blender – This is an open source program that can be used for modeling and animation. Blender has the advantage of being able to use your own videos as templates for any animations you make.

Pitivi – This is an open source video editor that allows you to import projects from other programs, such as Adobe Premiere and AVID Media Composer. It also comes with software called “papagayo” which will allow you to change the speed of your videos.

VSDC Free Video Editor – This is another editor that can be used in place of Adobe Premiere but at a fraction of the cost. It also comes with software that will allow you to change the speed of your videos.

Choose A Video Speed Editor – Filmforth

Using a video speed editor is the best way to make your videos look more professional. If you own a business and are making your own videos, then you’ll want to get the best video speed editor you can find.

The first thing you want to look for in a video speed editor is that it has the capability of looping. This means that you’ll be able to play the same clip over and over again without stopping it.

You can do this by pressing a button or by hitting the space bar on your keyboard. You don’t want to have to sit there and keep clicking play over and over again.

Another great feature to look for in a video speed editor is how it allows you to edit the audio. You can add music and sound effects or even record your own voice if you choose not to use any music at all.

You might have a song that plays during the beginning of your video, but once the video starts, you’ll want it to go silent so that you can hear what you’re saying.

You may also want one that has more than one option for changing the speed of your videos. Some will be able to slow down or speed up videos by as much as 10 percent in either direction. Others will only allow for 5 percent adjustments.

 Import Your Video Clip

I’ll cover the details of how to import your video below. But, for now, let’s get you started by importing your first video.

TIP: Please be sure to use the MP4 format for your videos. AVI’s and other formats will not work with this program.

  • First, get your video from whatever source you have it on now – phone, tablet, camera, etc.
  • Plug in your device or card reader into your computer and copy the file onto your hard drive (make sure you don’t mind losing the original file).
  • Open SourceReel and select File > Import Video…
  • Click “Browse” and locate the file on your computer that you just transferred over.
  • Click “Open”
  • Next, select a name for your project by clicking on the text box at the top of the screen that says “Untitled Project” and typing in anything you like. I typically name mine with something that explains what’s in it so when I look at my list of projects I can decide which one I want to watch easily.
  • After selecting a file name click “Create”
  • This will bring up a box with all of your footage that is easy
