I'm looking to cut the wires going to my doors and install some type of quick disconnect plug to make removing doors quicker.
Any help and where to get the plugs would be appreciated (preferably Amazon)
Just looking for exact name of plug (6 pin or 6 wires).

Thanks,
Mike

Maybe I'm missing something, but, the doors already have harness disconnects from the factory... slide the tab, pull them apart.

Yeah, I don't understand the question. It takes longer to get the doors out of the hinge bushings than it does to unclip the wire harness.

MJP,

I'm assuming you've never looked under the kick panels. The quick disconnects are already there. Just follow the cloth-covered harness from the door up under the dash and you'll find the quick disconnects. As stated above, it literally takes 5 seconds.

Mike,
Mike H, has given you an answer to your inquiry about easily removing the harness for door removal. If you don't know, you follow the wiring harness from the door, up into the kick panel area. You will then find a mounted connection plug, attached to the kick panel. A push of a tab, and then pull on the lower half, will detach that plug, and your wiring harness. Your door is now free to remove.

But, there is another way. It's quite expensive but, quite a bit easier. The item I'm referring to is called a: Jamb-TAC. With this system, there are virtually NO WIRES there in the first place. Here is a link below.

Maybe by removing the door cards and then disconnecting the wires from inside the doors? :lmao:

Whatever he's been doing... if he hasn't been just unplugging them he's gonna feel pretty silly when he discovers how easy it's supposed to be.

Chapter 2 of your owner's manual describes how to remove your doors, including how to unplug the quick disconnect that is already there.

What wires? You mention a 6 pin/wire plug or connector. We can't help you if you don't fully explain what you're trying to do.

My driver side plug is a royal pain to disconnect. I can get all 3 of the other doors off in the same amount of time as the drivers door.

Color the door plug with sharpie. Then see where it's tight. File that area down.

Also sometimes it's the latch that hangs up. Break it off. It won't fall out on its own.

I would love to see some magnetic connectors - like they use on Apple's Macbooks....that would be sweet....perhaps they exist somewhere already...?

I assume he's pulling the panels apart and desoldering/soldering the connectors for each wire, as needed.

Kidding aside, I do find the connector both annoying to use and am concerned about the seeming fragility of it. I've kicked around the idea of putting together a screw harness, like in the pic.

So you had manual locks and windows then had power ones added and the installer didn't include any sort of disconnect? Yeah, I definitely wouldn't want to go back there.

Not sure what gauge wire was used, but a molex would work and be pretty cheap. Something like this.https://www.amazon.com/Molex-6-Pin-Connector-0-093-Sets/dp/B004GE45ZC

Magnetic connectors where? If you're talking about electrical contacts used between the door and the Jamb, then take a look at the link I posted a few posts back. They're called Jamb-TACs. My motorhome and all our fire trucks had them. They're just not cheap. They're also the only thing produced that will do the trick of conveying electrical signals, WITHOUT WIRES.

Yeah, I saw those. Nice but I assume some cutting is required to mount them? I'm not crazy about cutting/drilling holes in the Jeep. They are just contact connections aren't they or are they magnetic as well?

My idea was basically an "in line" magnetic connector (think of it as a butt splice". It would eliminate the "unplugging" but the wires would still be there.

I donno. It's probably not worth the effort, you still have to undo the retaining straps...and the existing plugs are easy enough for me at least.

Look up "weather pack" connectors. You can get a 6 pin connector. Auto parts stores, e-bay look around. They're what I used when I added power door locks to my wife's Jk.

Weatherpak connectors are really nice, been using them for years. I've got a full set of 6-pin, 4-pin, 3-pin, 2-pin and singles, about a dozen each. Got various gauge pins for each too, and the various seal sizes for different gauge wires. I've got the cheaper pair of specific pliers for Weatherpak work but, they work flawlessly. There are multiple brands/types of double/triple sealed removable connectors on the market. Weatherpak is pretty much more easily available.

Can I leave the bolts out of my Jeep doors?

They are just a safety feature. If you don't need the piece of mind just leave them off as some do.

Can you take the doors off a Jeep with power windows?

If your Jeep is equipped with power windows, locks or mirrors, there will be a wire harness that will need to be unplugged. Before unplugging the wire harness, lower the windows to ensure that the glass is properly protected within the door frame and to make removal easier.
