Audi a6 c7 automatic gearbox problems
Audi a6 c7 automatic gearbox problems

Hi ,

I need some advice , I have an audi a6 2015 S line , 108 K , Full Audi maintained . The gear box has been service at 60 K and then again at 100 K .
in the last service they found a fault with oil pump and replaced it . When the car went this week to Audi they have found the following error

Diagnosis into gearbox issue. Found gearbox oil coming through gearbox control unit and into wiring. Requires replacement gearbox control unit J217, and all replacement seals and gaskets as mechatronics requires removal

The quoted cost is 2.5 K .

The car had no issues prior to this . I tried googling it but no luck .
Any help will be greatly appreciated

Service intervals for the DSG 'box are 38k.... so would imagine any goodwill from Audi would not exist.

Try an indy - My wifes Seat DSG went a couple of years ago - 6k for SEAT to fix - an Indy gearbox specialist charged 3K - but that did include a new mechatronic unit and its re-coding

first change was 22k miles late - you wouldn’t let your engine oil go that’s far over and ask for goodwill on something out of warranty - why should a gearbox be any different?

Post 2011/2 are generally more reliable than the earliest boxes, but they can all suffer from faults to a certain degree. Mechatronics related faults are one of the most common.

Dr G has previously, from memory, recommended these guys who will do repairs

Might be worth a call with your fault code details and the servicing history of the box and see what they advise?

Don't forget that a lot of the cost is the time to remove and reinstall the gearbox, so if there are any doubts over the length of time the box might last it'd be worth having it properly inspected while it's in bits.

Gearboxes no longer need to prove themselves on the strength side, in fact, as you do not need to use your clutch pedal and everything is electronically and mechanically controlled there will be no premature wear of your clutch or other components that could be strained by misuse on your part.
However, depending on the type of automatic gearbox on your Audi A6, its reliability will be different, we are going to present them to you now:

  • Classic automatic gearbox: It uses a torque converter, which will have the task of ensuring gear changes, it is the oldest technology, it has evolved a lot over the last dozen of years. years (more reports and better management of gear changes).
  • Robotized automatic gearbox: This is a manual gearbox whose robotic mechanism will replace the action of the driver. This Box Style is becoming less common as they tend to have very low responsiveness. There are also frequent jerks during deceleration.
  • Double-clutch automatic gearbox: This is the most successful model of automatic gearbox, it uses the same style of mechanism as the robotic box, that said by means of its double clutch, you will no longer have any problems with slowness, or overconsumption. They are usually mounted on luxury models.
  • Continuously variable automatic transmission: It is the same principle as on a scooter, it is thanks to a variator that the management of acceleration and the rotational speed of the engine will be harmonized, they prove to be particularly slow and tend to be unresponsive during the acceleration phases of your Audi A6.

Indeed, the solenoid which acts as a "switch" to engage the gears must not work properly, second solution, it could be that a speed or engine speed sensor is faulty and is sending incorrect data to your gearbox.
  • I notice some jerks coming from the automatic gearbox of my Audi A6: In the event that you feel jerks when you gain speed or when you slow down, it is possible that it is your gearbox oil which has lost its properties because of its age, or a sensor which gives false information
  • My Audi A6's automatic gearbox is leaking: Finally, if the automatic transmission of your Audi A6 has problems with leaks, it is very likely that one of your oil seals is in too bad condition.
