Lots of things can cause shifting problems from as simple as fluid level to low/high to internal damage requiring repair/replacement, with many other things that have nothing to do with the transmission, such as if computer thinks brake pedal is being pressed or a bad or wrong engine throttle value, best to have it diagnosed soon so if there is not any serious damage you get it taken care of before it gets worse, call Nick at 757-456-0722 and we can get it diagnoses by one of our master technicians (we also have a Chrysler dealership trained master technician as well)

Chrysler Town & Country owners have reported 10 problems related to transmission not go into gear (under the power train category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. 1 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2015 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 04/08/2021

Over the course of having the vehicle for the past 3 years. We have had a number of odd occurrences where when driving the van it has a hard time shifting while climbing a hill, when pulling away quickly from a stopped position or when coming to a stop. The issue is always when the transmission is shifting. We have had it looked at but they could not replicate the issue, until. When driving to the grocery store the van would not go into gear while trying to leave the parking lot onto a major city highway. The van jerked and shook and then revved very loudly getting to almost 8000 rpms. The car then lurched forward almost causing us to collide into traffic. After this instance we decided a to call the issue in. Upon our initial call, the warranty was expired and they would not be able to do any repairs under the warranty. When searching for recalls while none showed for our particular VIN, many others have had this same issue. Given the nature of the issue we can confirm that cause of the issue is losing hydraulic pressure. This faulty component nearly cost the lives of my 5 family members as well as other that could have been injured.

2 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2010 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 12/05/2020

When trying to put car in manual mode the shifter doesn't change gears. This causes an issue when trying to shift to lower gears in bad weather. I have read many forums on this issue and it seems as tho it is completely a design flaw. There is a plastic piece that rubs on the wires and shorts them out eventually causing you not to switch gears manually, which can cause an accident in bad weather.

3 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2016 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 04/20/2020

I was driving my care when the vehicle stopped moving in the middle of the road. The car would either not go into gear or when it would it would shift extremely hard. Sometimes the car would rev to 3-4 rpms but would not go anywhere while other times the car would be driving and then rpm very low, very suddenly. Although my car is not showing a specific recall when a VIN search is completed, I did find a large amount of complaints which were very similar to mine and those vehicles were same make and year.

The contact owns a 2010 Chrysler town and country. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 14v373000 (air bags, electrical system); however, the part to do the repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. While attempting to exceed 20 mph, the vehicle failed to shift gears and the rpms accelerated exponentially; however, the vehicle failed to accelerate along with the rpms. The approximate failure mileage was 92,000. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. Parts distribution disconnect.

5 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2004 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 10/04/2008

My 2004 Chrysler town and country will not shift when driving the rpms go up to 4000 and the transmission will not shift to next gear I can not drive it on the freeway it will only let you drive about 40 mph because the rpms are to high and I( am afraid of damaging the motor driving with such high rpms transmission is an a604 4speed the same as the Chrysler pacifica which has an active recall because of the same problems that I am having.

7 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2001 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 04/29/2005

At 49,000 miles, my check engine light came on. Took to dealer, they said it was a leak in the seal of my fuel tank. Replaced tank, after sending for 3 and they sent wrong one. Cost 868. 00. Day after I picked up car, I was on a busy highway and the car lurched into neutral and I pulled to side. Would not go in any gear. Towed to dealer, was told that the transmission went. Worst case 3500. 00 rebuilt one is 1600. 00. Will try to have Chrysler pay as there are so many of the same problems.

8 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2000 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 10/16/2004

I have a 2000 Chrysler Town & Country minivan. I was under the impression that all vehicles must be made so that a car can not be put in gear without pressing on the brake. Currently, if my vehicle is in park I can just pull down on the gear shift and it will go into gear, without pressing on the brake pedal. I was surprised as our 1996 Jeep had been recalled so they could fix this problem. I am concerned because my 3 yr old son put my car into neutral and it started rolling forward and was stopped by a parked car. We only moved 2 ft in a parking lot, but it could have been worse had we been on a hill or something.

10 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 1996 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 08/01/1998

Automatic transmission in both levels "3" and low "l" gears did not respond or gear down while decending mountain areas.

What would cause automatic transmission not to shift?

Why the Transmission Won't Shift Gears. One reason why an automatic transmission isn't shifting into gear has to do with the fluid. If it's not at the right level or the incorrect type has been used, then it'll affect the gears. Another big reason has to do with the ECM possibly going bad.

What causes a transmission not to shift when it warms up?

A few common causes are low or dirty transmission fluid, or faulty shift solenoids. The transmission uses fluid pressure to shift the gears, and does so using electronic solenoids. If there is an issue with either of these the vehicle may experience problems shifting or transferring power to the wheels.

What are common problems with 2010 Chrysler Town and Country?

The most common problems found on the 2010 Town & Country include stalling engines, failing computers, and excessive brake wear. Stalling engines are the most frequent issue showing up on a lot of vans at around 90,000 miles.
