Andy Murray made a winning return to Wimbledon after coming from behind to beat James Duckworth on Centre Court.

After dropping the first set to his Australian opponent, the Scot found his rhythm and roared back to claim a 4-6 6-3 6-2 6-4 victory.

The two-time Wimbledon champion has plans to win a third title at SW19 after battling back from a near career-ending hip injury.

Since he reached the quarter-finals of Wimbledon back in 2017, he has struggled to reach the levels that made him an 11-time Grand Slam finalist.

Andy Murray next match: Date and start time

The 35-year-old plays his next match at Wimbledon 2022 on Wednesday, June 29.

Murray will be taking on John Isner, 37, who is the 20th seed and beat Enzo Couacaud 6-7(6-8), 7-6(7-3), 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 in his first match.

Murray will return to Centre Court after Novak Djokovic and Emma Raducanu’s games which could mean him in action around 7pm.

Andy Murray next match: Who is John Isner?

Murray has faced American Isner 10 times and has never lost!

However, the last time these two clashed against each other was six years ago prior to Murray’s struggles with injuries.

Isner’s highest ranking was No.8 in 2018 and he still holds a Wimbledon record for the longest match in tennis history.

His famous battle with Nicolas Mahut at SW19 in 2010 went a mammoth total of 11 hours and five minutes.

Murray faced up to questions about his cheeky underarm serve against Duckworth and swiftly dispatched them.

“I personally have no issue with players using it. I never have,” he said.

“Certainly more and more players have started returning from further behind the baseline now to give themselves an advantage to return.

“No one says it’s disrespectful for someone to return from five or six metres behind the baseline to try to get an advantage.

“So I used it, not to be disrespectful to him, but to say ‘if you’re going to step further back to return the serve to give yourself more time, then I’m going to exploit that’.”
