Work Today and Get Paid Today

Emergencies happen to everyone, and when they do, temp jobs that pay daily are a godsend. We all need a little extra cash here and there, so temporary staffing agencies can really save the day when we don't have time to wait for a paycheck. In my experience, the three agencies listed below are the best nationwide staffing firms that offer their temps same-day pay.

1. PeopleReady

PeopleReady generally has a wide variety of jobs available. From general labor to housekeeping to event security, there is plenty to choose from. The onboarding process is simple and straightforward. Fill out their application and aptitude tests online, then take two forms of identification to their office to complete the sign-up process.

As with most staffing agencies, you can set up direct deposit, but the fastest way to get paid is to use the cash card they offer because the deposit is processed almost immediately. Oftentimes, you receive the money before you even arrive home after work.

2. LaborMAX

Like PeopleReady, LaborMAX is a nationwide staffing agency with offices all over the country. The positions they offer vary depending on location and time of year, but you can expect to see opportunities in warehouse and distribution, hospitality, traffic control, transportation, construction, and waste management.

It is worth mentioning that certain reviews from people who have temped with LaborMAX mention delays in pay. In my experience, however, pay was always received either the same day or the following morning at the latest. In certain cases, how quickly you receive pay may depend on the position you are offered. If getting paid the same day you work is important to you, be sure to mention this to your contact during onboarding.

3. HireQuest

HireQuest is another staffing agency with locations all over the US. When I temped with HireQuest, it was known as TrojanLabor. Since then, TrojanLabor was either acquired by or otherwise transformed into HireQuest. TrojanLabor paid daily, and from what I understand, HireQuest does, too.

When I temped with TrojanLabor before the name change/acquisition, many of the jobs offered were in hospitality and housekeeping, catering and event labor, traffic and flagging, or warehouse operations. I imagine the positions they offer today are similar.

What to Remember When Applying for Temporary Jobs

Staffing agencies can be hectic and busy places. The office staff may be answering calls from employers, handing out job assignments, and filling out paperwork to set up payouts for employees. If the office is busy, it's a good sign that there are many jobs available. Always be patient, courteous, and respectful of the office staff. They are busy helping you and everyone else get to work and get paid. Be assertive if you have questions—they want you to succeed!

Working concessions at a sporting event or concert is a great opportunity if you have a lot of energy, can multitask, and enjoy interacting

Common Job Types Offered by Staffing Companies

It's important to accept a job that is a good match for your skill level and stamina. Some jobs are more physically demanding, while other jobs require a higher degree of mental concentration. Some jobs require you to be on your feet for most of the day, while at others, working while seated is an option. The following are a few job types that are frequently offered by temporary staffing agencies.

Auto Auction Driving

Auto auction driving can be a lot of fun. On auction day, drivers are needed to take vehicles through the auction bays so that buyers can look them over and make bids. At other times, vehicles need to be moved around in a lot to prepare for an upcoming auction. A clean driving record is usually required for this type of work.

Detailing and Car Washing

Auto auction detailing and car washing often pay more than auto auction driving. This is because the work is more strenuous. Be sure to consider the weather before accepting a job of this type. It's easy to get wet while washing cars, and being wet in cold weather while outdoors is not ideal.

Hotel Room Cleaning

Hotels and resorts sometimes need help cleaning their rooms. Once guests are gone, each room is usually cleaned and prepared for the next guests. This differs from housekeeping, which usually just involves making beds and replacing towels for guests who will be staying the night again. Housekeeping is usually performed by regular staff.

If a hotel is short-staffed, temporary workers will often be brought in to help turn over rooms. Cleaning bathrooms, stripping and remaking beds, and general cleaning are easier and faster than normal housekeeping because there is no extra clutter from guests to get in the way.

Construction Cleanup

Construction cleanup is a strenuous job. It involves working on an active construction site, so personal protection equipment such as steel-toed footwear, hard hats, and safety vests may be required. Sometimes, sweeping up an area after workers have completed a task is all the job requires. More often than not, however, there are a lot of leftover materials and debris that need to be thrown away. Expect to do at least a moderate amount of lifting.

Event Security

Event security can be a fun job. Concerts, sporting events, and other special events like college graduations often require temporary help with security. Many people are needed for crowd directing, parking control, and to help people through metal detectors or entry points. At some point during your shift, you may even have a favorable vantage point and be able to see some of the show or game. Background checks are usually required for these jobs.

Concession Stand Operations

Concession stands often need extra help during sporting events and concerts. Serving food and taking credit card and cash payments are the primary tasks involved. This type of work can be very hectic and fast-paced, but shifts usually go by quickly. Standing, talking to customers, and working in a small space with others tend to be the norm with these positions. Background checks and paid training from the company are usually required.

Car auctions provide a lot of temporary work. Temporary drivers and detailers help the auctions go smoothly.

How to Be Successful at Your Job Site

Arriving at a job site for the first time can be intimidating. It's easy to feel like a fish out of water when you first walk into an unfamiliar workplace. Keep the following tips in mind to ensure that your first workday is a success.

  • Be assertive: The first person you speak to may not know that you are coming. Introduce yourself and tell them which staffing company sent you. Ask for the contact person listed on your paperwork. If you have any questions or concerns, contact the staffing company for help.
  • Be patient: The hiring company may need a little time when to determine where you will be working that day once you arrive. Things change on job sites frequently. People call in sick. The previous day's tasks may not have been completed or may have been completed early. Companies usually hire temps when things aren't going as planned, so it's best to be patient while they figure out how to best use your time and effort. Don't stress about it—even if you have to sit down for a few minutes while they figure things out, you'll still be paid for your time.
  • Be safe: Do not take on tasks that look unsafe. Call the staffing agency's office if you have a concern. For example, you may have been hired to monitor the metal detector at an event, but you are not required or trained to remove a boisterous drunk from the premises. Ask regular security or police officers to do that. Bring any concerns you have to the attention of the manager you are working for. You are not required to do anything that is not in the job description, and you certainly shouldn't attempt anything that is unsafe.
  • Drink water: Remember to hydrate throughout the day. Keep water with you. Dehydration slows you down and can make you sick.

Your Labor Is Valuable

Temporary work can be stressful, but remember that at the end of the day, your wallet will be a little heavier, and that’s a good thing. It's important to do your best and make a good impression on your temporary employer regardless of whether you will be working for them in the long term. In some cases, temporary workers who demonstrate proficiency and reliability may be hired by a company on an ongoing or permanent basis. Work hard, have fun, and get paid! Good luck.

Depending on the jobs available at the service that day, you can do very well. It's important to sign up with them in advance so that the office has your special skills in their database when they get a job request from a client. That way they know if they can fill the request before they accept it.
