I only recently discovered this group and I was so impressed. If I ever get married again, this is perfect to play as everybody is walking in, at least that is what I envisioned when listening to it. Plus, the original score at the end was a nice, well put together addition! Cheers! Reviewed in the United States on May 7, 2012 i love it, its as simple as that. it arrived very quickly in very good condition. the choice of songs was excellant and amazon have done a very good job...thankyou Reviewed in the United States on October 17, 2007 I've listened to a couple of songs from the plethora of recently released string quartet tribute CDs, and most of them have been underwhelming. I was concerned, then, when I saw that a Smashing Pumpkins tribute had been released, because they have long been my favorite band. I'll start with the bad...some of the songs are extremely simplified versions of the originals - 1979, particularly - is monotonous and boring. The subtle themes of the original song are almost completely lost in the heavy-handed orchestrations. Also, the final song ("The Prize Goes to the Ghost Children") is hypnotically awful. Why four stars, then? Some of the songs are genuinely terrific. "Zero," "Galapagos," and "Today" are stand-outs on the disc. They certainly don't replace the original songs, nor should one expect them to. But they certainly change the way you approach the music of the originals. "Today," and already incredibly melodic song, sounds almost like a piece of chamber music from the Romantic period - dazzling. I will say, though, that I am sure not everybody will appreciate this music...and die hard fans of the Pumpkins probably shouldn't even listen to this, because it is just going to make them angry. All in all, though, it's a saccharin delight. We wanted the day to be representative of our taste and the song catalogue provided by the registry office didn't have anything we liked. I am a huge Smashing Pumpkins fan but my husband isn't, mostly due to Billy Corgan's voice, so I did a little research and convinced him that string (instrumental) versions of their songs was the way forward. It was a great way to incorporate music that would have otherwise been a little distracting in a ceremony such as ours. Although I love this album as a whole, we only chose to use one song, Stand Inside Your Love, when leaving the registry office. I've always loved that song and was very pleased I could listen to it on my wedding day. During the reception, we played a number of string versions in the background, from this and two more albums (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0024F08HY/ref=oh_details_o05_s00_i00 and http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000QFAER8/ref=oh_details_o06_s00_i00). The guests were so impressed they commented on the selection and even asked where to get the tracks from. Last but not least, this is not your average covers album: these are exquisite versions of great songs such as 1979, Zero, Perfect, Soma, Today and many more.
