Ship in a bottle lyrics steffan argus meaning

Hey! This post is quite old but I had to comment because I love every song you mentioned, so I'll try to share something similar. And please, if in the meantime you found more like those, I'd love to know!

Black wave / Bad vibrations by Arcade Fire, dark and desperate vocals like Ship in a bottle and Achilles

Broken Crown by Mumford and Sons, pretty much for the same reason

Coraline by Maneskin, it's in Italian, same angst as Grandson but deep, powerful and sad lyrics like Achilles and Hozier

Pretty much all of Twenty One Pilots, I'd say especially Jumpsuit and Bandito

The other side of Paradise by Glass Animals, lyrics tell a good story and the singer conveys it really well with passion. Try also Agnes if you find them interesting

Minus 61 by Woodkid. All his songs are amazing and this is not his most famous but it has that sad and resigned epicness of Hozier and Achilles

Handlebars by Flobots. Sung with so much emotion and it tells a good story about power and madness. If you like it, try also Animals by Muse

Anything by Les Friction is incredibly epic and cinematic. There's also an overarching story, pretty cool. Try The end of the Beginning maybe

If you want something more on the sad side, Familiar by Agnes Obel and Adeline by Alt-J move me to tears every time. Same with Ocean by Platon Karataev

I also have a feeling that you might like Riots by Stuck in the Sound and, again if you don't mind Italian, Voce by Madame (lyrics are worth translating but the song is amazing anyway)

Last but not least, I know the End by Phoebe Bridgers. Simply breathtaking.

Let me know what you think!

Edit: knew I'd forgotten something, The Labyrinth Song by Asaf Avidan, the closest thing to Achilles you'll find probably, there's even a mythological theme

Ship in a Bottle
Steffan Argus Lyrics

You can fit everything you know
In a bottle for you to show
Pick your brain apart and put it in (pick your brain apart)
And build it again
With needles and pins
Everything you ever did is shared [?]
With blue waves crashing into it
But nothing can touch your happy thoughts anymore
(nothing can touch your happy thoughts anymore)
With your glass ceiling, walls, and floor

Sailing on a ship in a bottle
Anchor all your thoughts to the bottom
Pulling ropes and holding your head back
To see what is breaking the foremast
You set sail alone there is no crew
No one on the deck who can help you
This is all your own battle to win
This is your ship and you are the captain

Oh, captain, let's make a deal
Where we both say the things that we both really feel
I feel scared and I'm starting to sink
And I only sink deeper the deeper I think
Oh, captain
Oh, captain, deal
Oh, captain deal
Oh, captain deal
Oh woah

There are red spots under your eyes
From when you cry
Into the sky
Ocean waters rising above your neck, mmm
You feel the glass
Start to crack

Sailing on a ship in a bottle
Water's leaking through holes in the bottom
Flying flags of ships that have long since
Sat at the floor of the sea, but in defense
You set sail alone there is no crew
No one on the deck who can help you
This is all your own battle to win
This is your ship and you are the captain

Oh, captain, let's make a deal
Where we both say the things that we both really feel
I feel scared and I'm starting to sink
And I only sink deeper the deeper I think
Oh, captain, make up your mind
Before the salt burns your eyes and you run out of time
'cause you're popping the cork
You get lost in your brain
And you lose touch with all the things that made you feel sane
Oh, captain
Oh, captain, deal
Oh, captain deal
Oh, captain deal
Oh woah

Woah-oh-oh-oh-oh
Woah-oh-oh-oh-oh
Woah-oh-oh-oh-oh

Woah-oh-oh-oh-oh
Woah-oh-oh-oh-oh
Woah-oh-oh-oh-oh

Oh, captain, let's make a deal
Where we both say the things that we both really feel
I feel scared and I'm starting to sink
And I only sink deeper the deeper I think
Oh, captain, make up your mind
Before the salt burns your eyes and you run out of time
'cause you're popping the cork
You get lost in your brain
And you lose touch with all the things that made you feel sane
Oh, captain
Oh, captain, deal
Oh, captain deal
Oh, captain deal
Oh woah

Woah-oh-oh-oh-oh
Woah-oh-oh-oh-oh
Woah-oh-oh-oh-oh

I want to be the surgeon that cuts you open
That fixes all of life's mistakes
I want to be the house that you were raised in
The only place that you feel safe
I want to be your shower in the morning
That wakes you up and makes you clean
I know I'm just the weather against your window
As you sleep through a winter's dream

Something's churning the earth, something's stirring the sky
And the colour at once in column of light
Bacteria breeds on a microscope slide
The worm in my heart's the apple of your eye

Don't adore what is impossible
We have built this ship in a wine bottle
But oh, but if you knew how it worked
We would have to grow old

Something's eating at you, wakes you up in the night
If you dig in the past, who knows what you'll find
Read the newspaper print off the microfiche slide
And your holding your breath for the rest for of your life

Don't you love what is intangible
I have built this ship in a wine bottle
But if you knew who I was
You would never grow old
