Sample letter of recommendation for a basketball coaching position

Coach Gray has had a huge impact on my son and the other players who were fortunate enough to play for his AAU basketball team. Coach Gary is an excellent basketball coach, a fine mentor, and role model for all the players. He is spiritually grounded and treats everyone with respect and dignity. At first, my son wanted to play for Coach gray because his teams were successful. After playing for him for only a short period of time we realized that success on the court is only a small part of what Coach Gray teaches his players. Outside of practice Coach Gray has devoted a lot of his personal time to helping my son decide what type of college program he would like to play for. Coach Gray had a lot of contacts and helped my son gain exposure to a lot of programs. With Coach Grays help, my son ended up finding the college program that was right for him. I would not hesitate to recommend Coach Gray to any parent or player who is looking for an AAU basketball program. I have watched him work very hard to help every player achieve his full potential. Coach Gray can be trusted to take good care of young player and give him the advice he needs reach his achievable goals.

Very Truly Yours,

Richard D. Nearhood

Coach Gray

I wanted to take this time out to thank you for all of your hard work, caring attitude, loyalty, and friendship that you have shown to Chris over the past several years while playing for your AAU basketball team.
You have been more than just a coach to him, and have gone way beyond
your duties as a coach to make sure that my son was offered a four year athletic
scholarship. Your playerprofiletoday Athletes site played a tremendous part of making sure that Chris was able to be scouted by several colleges (and I would
recommend the site to anyone
).  Without sending out tons of letters, grades, contact information, as well as game by game stats and progress of his basketball season, by just giving them his playerpofiletoday.com web address.  I
can’t tell you how easy it was to just upload all of his information onto your
website and just send that information to coaches and they had everything they
needed with professional ease.  Several college coaches even commented on how great it was to be able to go to my son’s page and find all the information they needed in following him and his basketball season. As a coach I couldn’t have
asked for a better program for my son to have been involved in, and there
aren’t any words that I can find to really express our gratitude to you for
following Chris throughout his high school basketball career by showing your
support of him, taping his games, sending out DVD’s to college coaches, making
phone calls and talking with coaches on his behalf, training sessions, and just
being a great mentor to him. Thank you so much for being such an instrumental part of Chris’s signing a four year athletic scholarship to attend Western
New Mexico University.  Our entire family couldn’t be happier for the
decision Chris has made to attend Western New Mexico University,
and we are very indebted to you for.

Dear Coach Gray:

I feel compelled to thank you for the service and friendship you have provided my son, and ourfamily.Your webhosting sight, your basketball IQ, your coaching skills, your legit and growing colligate contacts and magnanimous personality has made an immeasurable and dramatic positive impact on AJ’s collegiate future. AJ’s passion is to play basketball. He has dreams of playing at the college level. Last March, we knew this spring/summer season would be the most important basketball season of his career; it would either make or break his collegiate playing dreams. Now, less than 5 months later, the July NCAA viewing season is over, we feel AJ has a real shot at playing college ball and obtaining a full scholarship too! My only regret is AJ did not meet you sooner.

I am impressed with the website, as were my friends and relatives.

It makes communication with college coaches efficient. (Gone are the days of letters, snail mail and DVDs)

You know all the information coaches want or need to see regarding a student athlete and you guided us in that collection process. Presentation of this information on the website is clear. It’s a one stop shop for a prospective coach.

You understand how to market each player to their strength. AJ’s highlight video under your direction was extremely successful. I can honestly say, left to my own devices I would have gone in another direction, and it would have been the wrong direction. I have learned a lot.

In conjunction with the website, you outlined the sequence of events my son needed to execute via e-mails with college coaches to get him added to their viewing list. You even required AJ to provide the phone numbers so you could place a timely phone call to the coaches AJ e-mailed. Who does that? It generated a lot of positive responses, and really engaged AJ in the process even more. I am deeply impressed with your Coaching skill and Player care.

Your assessment of AJ’s strengths and skills he needs to improve are an important partof the process.

You bring an East Coast work ethic, but with humor. It’s a good combination. Nothing is gained without hard work, but it can be fun, too!

Reviewing film with kids individually is a service a parent cannot perform, on any level. It helps the student athlete see the game from a different perspective, from an NBA Player perspective. I have sat through these sessions, and I personally learned a lot. I only regret AJ did not have the benefit of these sessions a year prior to this season. Had he been able to see himself as coaches would see him – as good as he is, he would be even better!

Talking to players as they sub in and out of a game is critical to the leaning process, and to their confidence.

It is clear you love the game in all aspects; it brings you joy. I see it when you are talking to my son, other players on the team, or their parents. In closing, Team Metro has been a tremendous benefit for AJ. He found a mentor and a friend. I am trilled with the role model you provide. You are honest and straight forward. What you see is what you get, no hidden agenda. Thank you for finding your way into our lives. I would highly recommend you, Team Metro and your web-hosting service to any player / parent looking for  coaching or assistance with the process of maneuvering the NCAA recruitment waters.

Most sincerely,

Barbara Hess

Team Metro

Hi Coach,

Just wanted to express my gratitude for what you and Team Metro have done for my son this year. Under your watch I have seen a tremendous improvement in his decision making and court awareness. What is more impressive is that he has recognized this all himself as well and is very happy with where you have brought him to at that “next level”. The tournament play, the one on one work have all helped to mature him immensely. Both of us are excited and can’t wait till next year for the season to resume!

Thank you for inviting us into your team!
