Spring Basketball League has been paused for the week of April 26-30. Please check your email and this site for an update on Sunday, May 2. Greetings Everyone, Thank you so much for registering for our program. It is the first year it has been offered at OVEC and all 48 spots have been filled. This speaks volumes to the interest in basketball at the school and is a great sign for the development of the game in the years to come. Spring League Details Players have been grouped into four balanced teams. These teams will be coached by former members of the Glace Bay High School Girls Varsity Basketball program. These coaches bring a wealth of basketball knowledge to the program and will serve as fantastic role models to our players. Practices will be held on Mondays with Hoop! There It Is and Gold Rush practicing from 245-400pm and Pink Mambas and Blue Devils practicing from 415-530pm. Practices will be run by the current girls basketball coaches at OVEC and will be focused mainly on individual skill development. If your player has a conflict with the above time, they can attend a different practice time. If your player is absent from school on a basketball day, they cannot attend the Spring League. You do not have to report your player off from basketball. Games will take place on Wednesdays at 3PM and 4PM. Procedures Girls coming from class to the gym must wait until the 2:40pm bell. Girls coming to the second practice time/game will enter the school through the front doors. These doors will not open until 5 minutes before your gym time so please do not show up early looking to get in. Girls must have a clean pair of sneakers and their own water bottle. Girls must take their outdoor shoes off before entering the gym and take them over by the bleachers. All 4 locker rooms in the gym will be used. Girls are asked not to use the school washrooms to get changed. Once changed, girls will take all of their items out of the locker rooms and put them by their shoes by the bleachers. Girls can then take off their masks and get a basketball. Girls are not allowed on their phones, watches or any electronic devices during practices and games. If you absolutely need to get in touch with your girl, you can text/call me at the number provided in my initial email and I will deliver the message. Girls leaving the gym to fill their water bottle must put a mask on. Upon completion of the practice/game, players will get changed, put on their mask and exit through the red gym doors at the back of the school. Additional Details COVID Guidelines for OVEC will be followed. Shirts will be passed out during the first practice on April 19. Girls only need to wear their Breakers shirts to their games. They are not needed for practices. Behavior Expectations The goal of this camp is to teach participants the fundamentals of the game in a safe and supportive environment. Girls will be informed of the expectations during the first week. Any issues with inappropriate behavior, both in person and online will be addressed in the following manner: First Offense - a discussion with the player and parent/guardian. Second Offense - removal from the program. If you have any questions, comments or concerns, please do not hesitate to get in touch - Looking forward to a great Spring League! Sincerely, OVEC Girls Basketball Coaches
