Kenmore refrigerator side by side water filter

A Sears Kenmore fridge requires a water filter to keep the impurities from the ice maker and the water dispenser. The filter removes chlorine taste and odor along with led, asbestos and mercury. It can last for up to six months before the filtered impurities clog the filter cartridge. Once the filter has clogged, you can no longer dispense water, and the ice maker no longer produces ice. Replace the water filter to return the Sears Kenmore fridge to working condition.

How do I know which water filter my fridge takes?

Unplug the fridge from the wall outlet.
Spread a small towel on the floor in front of the fridge to catch any water from the old water filter.
Grab the filter handle protruding through the grill along the bottom of the fridge. Turn the filter handle counterclockwise until it releases from the connector inside the filter housing.
Pull the old filter from the refrigerator. Slide the handle off the back of the old filter. Throw away the old filter.
Slide the slot in the handle over the end of the replacement filter. Pull the protective cap from the end of the new filter.
Insert the replacement filter through the grill and into the filter housing. Turn the handle on the replacement filter clockwise until it locks in place.
Plug the Sears Kenmore into the wall outlet.

Filter 9130

Filter 9130 fits Kenmore and Kenmore Elite 111-series French door refrigerators. Kenmore and Kenmore Elite refrigerators with model numbers that start will 111 have their water filter located in the top right corner of the refrigerator section.

To replace the filter:

Pull the filter cover toward you and down.
Twist the existing filter counterclockwise ½ turn and pull it out.
Insert the new water filter and rotate it ½ turn clockwise to lock it in place.
Close the filter cover.
Dispense 1 gallon of water through the dispenser to purge air from the water filter and dispenser line.

To replace filter 9690, open the water filter cover then pull the filter down until it stops. Pull the filter out and replace it with the new one. Lift the filter up and close the water filter cover. Run 2 gallons of water through the water dispenser to purge air and residue.

Filter 9083

Filter 9083 fits select Kenmore and Kenmore Elite 106-series side-by-side refrigerators. This filter fits in the bottom grill of the refrigerator below the freezer door. Push the ejection button to release and remove the filter. Transfer the decorative cap from the old filter to the new one. Push the new filter into the housing until it clicks. Sears PartsDirect has replacement decorative caps for the 9083 filter. The black cap is part WP2260518B and the white cap is part WP2260518W.

How do you clean a Kenmore side by side refrigerator water dispenser?

Unplug the refrigerator or lock the controls to sufficiently clean the ice dispenser from the outside without activating it. Use a soapy washcloth to wipe down all surfaces and use a toothbrush to clean any cracks or crevices. Then wipe everything again with a wet cloth to remove the soap, followed by a dry cloth.
