A few weeks back, I talked about one of the bestselling carpet cleaners in Amazon, the Power Scrub Deluxe.

With over 10,000 reviews and a high rating, it’s a very popular option by consumers thanks to its combination of power and versatility.

But it does lack a quick cleaning feature that cuts drying time, lack of edge cleaning and the small water tank were issues according to some reviews.

So Hoover came up with something better – the Hoover Power Scrub Elite. This version comes with several key upgrades that will make life easier especially for the pet owner.

One of which is the quick clean mode that Hoover claims will dry in less than 45 minutes.

This would be a great feature if you’re looking to quickly clean an area if you have guests coming over. Or you’re just looking to spot clean a high traffic spot in your home.

Hoover also adds edge cleaning bristles that’ll help scrub all the way to the edges.

It also comes with a bigger water tank (1.25 gallons vs 1 gallon) that’ll last a little bit longer.

But the big question is, are all of these upgrades worth the premium? We will find out in this review.

The Power Scrub Elite is a bigger and better version of the Power Scrub Deluxe. It comes with bigger water tanks that hold up to 25% more water and a bigger handle that feels sturdier.

Overall this machine is larger. And Hoover does a good job at keeping the weight down despite the upsize.

Cleaning modes

Aside from the increase in size and capacity, the Power Scrub Elite now has two cleaning modes. There’s a quick clean and deep cleaning modes.

You can access this on a knob at the main cleaning head at the bottom. The quick clean mode gives you the option to clean carpet without having to wait a few hours to dry. It will not deep clean as well but Hoover says it’ll dry in less than 45 minutes.

Use this mode if you need to clean high traffic areas or areas that doesn’t need as much deep cleaning.

The first generation Power Scrub Deluxe does not have this feature. And it is a source of some of the negative reviews.

Large capacity water tanks

Both water tanks also got an upgrade.

Whereas the Power Scrub Deluxe only came with a 1 gallon water tank, this version is larger by around 25%.

Both the clean and dirty water tanks now have a capacity of 1.25 gallons. This means less trips to the sink to empty and refill.

Easy to use

One of my favorite features of this carpet cleaner is the ease of which to load the cleaning solution and water.

Just fill both the water and cleaning solution up to the fill line and the machine will do the rest.

Assembly is easy as you’ll only need a screw driver to secure two screws that’ll hold the handle on the body.

Remember not use boiling water on the tank as it will damage and disfigure it. Hot tap water is enough.

Again fill both water and solution tanks up to the fill line and you’re set.

SpinScrub technology

If you’re not familiar with this terminology, SpinScrub simply means five counter rotating spinning brushes that work together to agitation and clean stubborn stains from carpet.

This machine was created with the Pet Owner in mind. These brushes will agitate on both forward and backward passes.

For stubborn pet stains, you will need to pretreat stains prior to using this machine.

Here’s an important note is you’ll need to vacuum carpet first prior to using this. Check out these upright vacuums if you’re looking for one to help guide in your decision.

DualV Nozzle

To ensure fast drying times, there’s the DualV nozzle that sucks up excess cleaning solution and water off from carpet.

Wash/Rinse selector

Another feature that’ll help dry up carpet faster would be the wash/rinse selector. Take note that you’ll need to go through a wash and clean cycle to properly clean carpet.

In the wash cycle, this machine will spray cleaning solution, scrub and pickup excess cleaning solution to clean stains.

After going through a wash cycle, you’ll have to go through another cycle which is the rinsing cycle.

It will only use water to remove any leftover cleaning solution on carpet. Any dried cleaning solution will turn into powder and may cause allergic reactions in the long run.

So it is important to suck up any excess solution on carpet.

Above the floor cleaning

You’ll also have the ability to clean above floors with the 8-foot hose attachment and the 2-in-1 anti-microbial pet tool.

The hose and upholstery tool gives this machine the ability to clean stairs and upholstery.

HeatForce

To help reduce drying time, the Power Scrub Elite comes with the HeatForce feature that blows hot air on carpet to help it dry up faster.

The stains you see in the video are dried up stains that would be trouble with a lesser machine.

You’ll also see the benefit of having the 1.25 gallon water tanks.

After going through nearly all of the room, there’s still some water left on the tank.

And you’ll see how much muck and dirt this carpet cleaner was able to pick up with the dark fluid filling the dirty water tank.

This is another area where the quick clean feature is useful.

You wouldn’t need as much power to clean area rugs as in carpet. It’s clear that the quick clean mode has just enough agitation and suction to clean even shag rugs.

But not too much that you’ll be able to do a back and forth pass without picking up the rug.

Also the rugs were virtually dry after the dry pass.

With close to 500 reviews and a healthy rating, this is no question a popular option online. And you’ll clearly see why if you read feedback carefully.

This machine will clean carpet hands down. But you’ll have to use the proper technique to get the most out of this machine. That means slowing down and allowing the spinning brushes to do its magic.

When done right, this machine will be able to pick up pet stains on carpet and upholstery equally well.

It is also capable of cleaning area rugs thanks to the quick clean feature.

You’ll see a lot of before and after photos in the reviews. This proves that the performance isn’t just lip service. There is visual proof on how this machine performs.

Both water tanks are easy to remove which make loading and emptying easy. Assembling this machine is easy – all you need to do is slide the handle on the body and screw on a couple of screws.

Some even went as far as saying that this machine did better than a Rug Doctor rental and much cheaper too.

There were complaints about quality, more specifically leaking and belts failing. But these complaints were a minority.

It also comes with stiff edge brushes not found in the Power Scrub Deluxe that’ll help with edge cleaning. This machine is versatile enough to clean not just carpet but also rugs and upholstery.
