Or even a hot cocoa charcuterie board!

We can't (shouldn't be) going anywhere, it's hard to find a way to make holidays and occasions special with every day bleeding into one another at this point of 2021, so let's all learn to roll salami into a bouquet of roses for our loved ones, because real roses are way too marked up at this time of year.

With the rapid rise of delivery charcuterie boards (at least around Columbia, is this happening across the whole country or what?) I've seen salami roses sprouting up as a way to make charcuterie... more cuterie. They look super fancy and make a charcuterie board extra delightful and are super easy to make. If you're not into the idea of making a whole spread for Valentine's Day, try your hand at making a bouquet of salami roses, and delight the salami lover in your life.

I tried two different techniques to create roses, and both have their merits but your own dexterity will determine which method you prefer. In the end, they both wrap up about the same though. Check out my new iMovie skills and see which rose rolling method you're going to try first.

Wrapping Roses by Holding

Your hands are your best tool if you can keep a grip on the salami!

Prep Time 10 minutes

Total Time 10 minutes

Servings 1 serving

  • Toothpicks

  • A wide, shallow bowl

  • 1 package Genoa salami
  • 1 package uncured applewood smoked salami
  • 1 bag baby kale, baby spinach, arugula, etc. (or whole leaves, just no bags of pre-shredded leaves)

  • Open the salami packages and have toothpicks laying nearby.

  • Remove 6 slices of salami from one package.

  • Fold one in a semi circle and lay it in front of you. Fold another in a semi circle and lay it halfway overlapping the first, and do this with four slices. Try to hold them down, and start rolling in one direction, picking up the next slice of meat as you roll. Use your hands to keep the roll tightly bound together, and the bottom flat.

  • Fold the last two slices in half and wrap them around the roll gently.

  • Push a toothpick through towards the bottom of the rose, all the way from one side to the other, making sure you secure all of the outer layers.

  • Set in your shallow bowl and make as many more as you like.

  • Use the green leaves to decoratively obscure the toothpicks and enjoy!

How do you keep salami roses from falling apart?

On the third layer, you'll want to bring the layers closer together than the previous layer. This ensures that the salami will be wrapped tightly together and that your rose won't fall apart. Place the glass, salami side down, on your charcuterie board, and remove the glass from the salami.
