How often to change water filter jug

I use a Pur water filter jug for my drinking water. The manufacturer recommends replacing the filter every 2-3 months. However, that seems a bit excessive.

I've had the current one for over 6 months and I think it still tastes fine. That could be because I've gradually gotten used to the taste, I'm not really sure. If it was just for me, I wouldn't care, it tastes fine to me. However, I often have guests and would like to provide them with some clean drinking water.

My question is: how long does one of these filters last before it needs replaced? I go through a jug of water (2L, I believe) every 2 days or so. Is my filter doing much good after 6 months of use?

Water Filters are a necessity when it comes to giving you clean and safe water to use, but how are you supposed to know if your water filter stops working?

Every cartridge has a recommended lifespan, depending on various factors.

Generally, replacing water filters depend on their usage.

If you live alone, you probably have the maximum life span of every cartridge, which is one year.

If you live with your family (up to five), you will find your household may use more water than average.

How often you change water filter cartridges depends largely on the quality of your water and the frequency of water use.

My Water Filter products use different filtering systems specifically for showers, tap water, and even the whole house.

This way, you are guaranteed to enjoy clean and safe water for yourself and your family.

The Way Water Filters Work

A Water Filter acts as a physical blockade that traps unwanted particles in your water.

However, water comes from different sources, which means different particles could be present.

To effectively eliminate various waterborne contaminants that may cause illness, various water filter technologies have been developed.

Activated Carbon

'Activated Carbon' works by absorbing contaminants trapped inside the pore structure of the carbon filter.

There are two types of this filter, the 'Carbon Block' and the 'Granulated Activated Carbon' filter, where both are dependent on water pressure.

Carbon block water filters remove chlorine, taste and odour in your drinking water.

However, carbon cannot filter inorganic pollutants like fluoride, arsenic and nitrate.

Reverse Osmosis

This water filter system contains more advanced technology than the 'Activated Carbon' because it can remove fluoride, arsenic and nitrate.

Thus, these types of filters are recommended for people who want to remove fluoride or may have an illness that requires specific ranges of pH for alkalinity or acidity.

The Aquasana OptimH20 Reverse Osmosis system removes 5x more contaminants than regular filtration methods.

Ultra Violet Light

This water filter technology kills unseen bacteria with ultraviolet light.

UV water filtration can be attached to Whole House Water Filters and can be used with Under Sink Water Filters.

So, How Often Should I Change My Water Filter Cartridges?

For cheap, low-quality water filters, you may need to change them every 4-6 months.

For My Water Filter Products, it is recommended to only change them every 12 months for moderate use.

However, water quality and source can influence the filtering function of your filter. If you notice any of these signs, then it may be time to change your water filters:

      • Change in Water pressure.
      • Your drinking water tastes differently.
      • You notice tiny particles present in your water.
      • Water smells differently.

If you notice any of these signs, it is time to check on your water filter.
