What Is the Gas Mileage of the 2021 Jeep Compass?

How many gallons of gas does a jeep compass hold
To effectively answer this question, we’ll need to open up the hood and take a look at the Compass’s available engine configurations.

Right off the bat, we can see that this SUV packs a powerful punch. It sports a standard 2.4-liter Tigershark® engine with a MultiAir® 2 valve train system that’s capable of generating 172 lb-ft of torque and 177 horsepower—and up to 2,000 pounds of towing when properly equipped.

The combination of the valve train engine also makes for quite an efficient duo. In fact, with its standard front-wheel drive (FWD) configuration, this engine nets an EPA-estimated 22 city and 31 highway MPG. Add the standard 13.5-gallon fuel tank, and you’ve got the recipe for a thrilling driving experience.

Moreover, this 2.4-liter engine also includes Engine Stop/Start (ESS) Technology. Ideal for highway driving, ESS turns off the engine at stops, then restarts once the brake pedal is released and the transmission is engaged. Better yet, ESS comes standard on every Compass.

Jeep Compass Transmission Options

The accolades for Jeep’s engine keep coming, and it’s all thanks to two optional transmissions.

The first is a 9-speed automatic transmission with AutoStick®. This one is standard on 4x4 Compass models and delivers smooth gear transitions through all nine gear shafts for a premium and confident drive.

The second is a 6-speed automatic transmission with AutoStick®. This transmission is lightweight and compact, while offering a high-precision clutch that’s responsive and smooth. Furthermore, its innovative electronics system makes it a truly economical option. This one is standard on all FWD models.

Jeep Compass Gas Mileage: Jeep Active 4x4 Drive System

Did you know that the 2021 Jeep Compass is also available with a Jeep Active Drive 4x4 System? That’s right, but what does it mean for you—and your Compass’s fuel economy ratings? Let’s take a look.

The optional Jeep Active Drive 4x4 System is outfitted with a rear axle disconnect. This axle can seamlessly change from 2- and 4-wheel drive modes, thus increasing your vehicle’s efficiency when 4x4 capability isn’t needed. This results in an EPA-estimated 22 city and 30 highway MPG.

However, when 4x4 capability is needed, you’ve also got the power of Jeep’s optional Selec-Terrain® Traction Management System. This system is tailor-made for folks within our region, as it features four distinct drive modes for an array of weather and road conditions.

Auto: Auto mode is Jeep’s standard setting, as it’s ideal for everyday driving on paved roads. On Auto mode, the suspension is intuitively set, and torque is evenly distributed to all four wheels for better handling and smoother steering.

Snow: When the days turn frigid and the roads slick, switch to Snow mode, minimizing oversteer and increasing traction for better control.

Sand: Tackle sandy backroads with confidence with Sand mode. By recalibrating torque distribution and throttle management, traction is improved, and wheel slip is lessened.

Mud: Nothing’s sticking to this Compass now that you have Mud mode. Here, wheel spin is minimized, and traction is regained.

2021 Compass MPG: Jeep Active Drive Low 4x4 System

When it comes to capability, the Compass offers so many configurable options, we couldn’t fit them all into one section. Apart from the above four drive modes, the Compass also offers an available fifth setting: Rock mode.

This additional configuration is part of the Jeep Active Drive Low 4x4 System and can be found standard with the Jeep Compass Trailhawk. This system builds on the Jeep Active Drive 4x4 System by adding a 20:1 crawl ratio for superior off-roading prowess. Plus, its 4-Low mode locks the front and rear driveshafts for expert rock crawling, towing, and low-speed power.

Here’s the best part—it does it all without sacrificing fuel economy. How? By disconnecting the power take-off unit. The result is a commendable EPA-estimated 22 city and 30 highway MPG.

Jeep Compass Trailhawk: Taking Off-Roading to the Next Level

Besides the Jeep Active Drive Low 4x4 System, the Jeep Compass Trailhawk is also the proud recipient of Jeep’s Trail-Rated® badge.

What is the Trail-Rated® badge? It’s a symbol of honor give to Jeep vehicles that have passed a series of tests displaying its ability to perform within five categories: traction, articulation, maneuverability, ground clearance, and water fording.

It’s safe to say the Compass passed these tests with flying colors. This means you’ll be able to pass over all kinds of surfaces, like small creeks and streams of up to 19 inches of water. Or climb over rocks, branches, and other small debris with a maximum available ground clearance of 8.5 inches. For even more height, the available 19-inch wheels add a stylish and practical element to your off-roading adventures.

Speaking of style, rear red-tow hooks—standard on the Trailhawk—add to this ride’s striking exterior.
