This time we don’t just have a recipe for you, we’ve got a challenge! These burgers are so big you might just have to unhinge your jaw to take that first bite.

Mark from Swine Life BBQ took out all the stops and will show you how to make an incredible prime rib inspired hamburger that is almost too good to be true. We dare you to take on these mammoth-sized burgers, whether you can eat the whole thing or not, it’s still gonna be awesome!

What Is a Prime Rib Burger?

Traditional burgers are made from ground beef, which is ground meat made from the less tender cuts of sirloin, round and chuck. Prime rib is from the beef forequarter, from the sixth through twelfth ribs. This cut has great marbling and is very tender, which is why it’s popular for grilling, frying and roasting.

Prime rib is more expensive and flavorful than ground beef, and for this reason, it is not typically used in burgers. However, in the past few years, prime rib burgers have become popular, especially in more upscale establishments.

Traditional thinking is that using prime rib will make for a juicier burger — but you can make a burger that is just as delicious without sacrificing prime rib.

Why Try This Prime Rib Burger Recipe?

Swine Life’s Prime Rib Style Burger doesn’t start with prime rib. Our professionals don’t believe it makes sense. Save your prime rib for Herb Crusted Prime Rib or another recipe where you don’t have to wreck your rib by grinding it. The full flavor will come through more fully when you keep the prime rib whole.

This recipe treats ground chuck like prime rib, using seasonings, butter and technique to elevate your burger to a prime-rib experience. When you add seasonings, burger ingredients and especially toppings, you won’t be able to tell the difference between prime rib and chuck, so why spend more on your burger when your Swine Life’s Prime Rib Style Burger can be even better? Your friends and family will still get an artisanal style burger worthy of the country clubhouse.

Serving the Swine Life’s Prime Rib Style Burger

You can even make it keto-friendly by serving it up without the bun. This recipe is ideal for a cookout or outdoor event, too, because while it takes just a little extra care on the grill, it makes you look like the star you are.

Don’t forget all the fixings, too! This burger is delicious on its own, but it also pairs beautifully with just about any side dish, including sweet potato salad, corn on the cob, chips or fries, mushrooms and onions or even mac and cheese. We also have you covered for all the accessories and the grills you need to make the best burgers and other recipes.

Does ground prime rib make good burgers?

The flavor is what counts in ground prime rib, although it will be approximately 80% lean. A nutritionally lean, flavorful cut. Ground from the same piece as your sirloin steaks are cut from, hand trimmed of excess fat. This is excellent for meatballs and homemade burgers.

How long do steak burgers take to cook?

Grill the burgers 2 to 4 minutes on the first side until nicely browned. Flip and cook on the second side a few minutes more, until desired doneness is reached.

Can a prime rib burger be pink?

Answer: Yes, a cooked burger that's pink on the inside can be safe to eat — but only if the meat's internal temperature has reached 160°F throughout. As the U.S. Department of Agriculture points out, it's not at all unusual for hamburgers to remain pink inside after they've been safely cooked.
