Q: My car says 5% oil life change soon. How soon is soon? I have a 2008 ford tauras X

I just need to know so i can make appt

Hi There, Your oil life percentage is generally an estimated time designed to prompt the operator of the vehicle to have the oil changed as soon as possible. 5% is generally not something to be concerned about, but you should consider having the oil changed in the next 1,000 miles or less. I would recommend having a professional from Yourmechanic come to your location to perform an oil change service on your vehicle.

Car oil life hit 5% "Maintenance due now" can I make it to the weekend?

Hi,

I have a new 2018 Honda Civic EX with 15,000 miles and I scheduled an oil change for this upcoming Saturday (4 days away) and my oil life just hit 5% - so I now receive the warning that service is due now. My question is, can I make it to this Saturday? I will have to drive approximately 120 miles to and from work during this time. It's important to note that I changed my oil the first time and I used the Honda filter with sythetic oil.
I'm thinking that the sythetic oil should have some extended life and I'll be able to make it without damaging my car.

Thoughts?

sure, it takes a while to shift from 5 to zero, no discernible difference in oil quality in 5 percent. I know I went beyond 0 at times and the counter then tells you how many miles past due you are, lol.

That percentage is based on an algorithm using your driving habits. You can make it to Saturday no problem. I have the same feature in my Odyssey and I go about 6 months between oil changes (uses synthetic as well) before the minder comes on.

Don't worry, as long as there is the right quantity of oil in your engine, it's fine... Your engine won't flush the oil on the floor if your oil life hits 0%. It's just a software telling you to change it soon/whenever possible.

Just don't ''stretch'' your oil change intervals every time and you'll be fine.

How long can I drive my car on 5 oil life?

Recommended Services. Hi There, Your oil life percentage is generally an estimated time designed to prompt the operator of the vehicle to have the oil changed as soon as possible. 5% is generally not something to be concerned about, but you should consider having the oil changed in the next 1,000 miles or less.

Is 5% oil life okay?

If the readout drops to 5% it means that the oil has become so dirty that it needs to be changed immediately before it drops even lower. Indeed, once it reaches 0%, you have not only reached the point where service is past due, but also the point where the remaining oil is probably doing more harm than good.

How long is oil life in Honda Civic?

In fact, most Hondas go anywhere from 5,000 to 10,000 miles without an oil change, with some even topping out at the 15,000-mile mark.

Can I drive my car with 0% oil life?

When oil life reaches 0%, service on your vehicle's engine is now overdue. By driving with degraded oil, your Honda's engine may fail or significant damage may be caused.
