What can I donate to Habitat ReStore?

We accept donations of new and gently used appliances, household furniture and residential building supplies. With a few exceptions, we look for items that you would find in a “big box” home improvement store that we determine will sell in our retail stores.

Read below for the general guidelines of materials that we accept and review the drop-down menu before you donate your items.

Materials must be reusable:
Materials must be sellable: Items are not sellable if torn, broken, stained or have pet hair.
Must be usable by homeowners, small business owners and contractors for updating, repairs and renovations.

Structurally sound & complete:
Must be complete, intact, sturdy and free of major damage.

Functional:
Must be able to do what it was made to do. It needs to be ready to work “off the shelf” without any repair.

We accept the following bath accessories if they are in good condition with no chips or cracks and if all hardware is included:

  • Accessories: towel bars, soap dishes, TP holders, toothbrush holders (wall-mount only)
  • Bidets
  • Soaker Tubs: clawfoot, fiberglass, acrylic, steel, cast iron. Corner tubs excluded.
  • Jetted Tubs (new or used with pump included). Corner tubs excluded.
  • Handicap grab bars and support items
  • Medicine Cabinets
  • Showers (full sets preferred; individual bases, panel sets, and enclosures also accepted)
  • Shower Doors (complete sets with doors and hardware to attach the doors)
    • Sinks
      • If wall mount, new in box or unique antique only.
      • New or used for porcelain, steel or plastic, including pedestal sinks.
      • Handicap-accessible sinks must have mounting bars.
  • Toilets (with bowl, tank and lid for residential use. We accept pastel colors if part of a set.)
  • Vanity tops (standard single and double bowl units only; must be rectangular in shape)

We are able to accept the following building supplies if they are in good condition and do not have nails or screws, as applicable:

  • Adhesives & caulk (unopened and not expired)
  • Brick and block (full pieces with no mortar)
  • Ceiling tile & accessories
  • Drywall and Accessories
    • Drywall sheets (in useable 1/4 sheets or larger)
    • Joint compound/mud (unopened and not expired)
    • Drywall tape (clean and dry, never damp)
    • Corner bead (full, undamaged sticks or partial/full rolls)
  • Insulation: backed & unbacked (new only, clean and never damp, rolled, bound or otherwise contained)
    • Blown (new, only in original packaging)
    • Sheet (new, or like new, ¼ sheet or larger, clean with no holes or damage)
  • Trim, moulding and millwork (minimum of 6’ long)
    • Handrails (minimum of 6’ long)
    • Landing posts & spindles (full lengths – not cut off at floor level)
    • Railings: interior wrought iron, exterior any material (incomplete sections or parts)
  • Lumber
    • Wood, metal and composite (minimum of 6′ long)
      • No nails or screws. No rotten, rusted, or deteriorated areas. No excessive weathering.
    • Dimensional lumber & beams (minimum of 6’ long)
    • Plywood (usable half sheets and larger)
  • Roofing
    • Corrugated tin
    • Felt & roll roofing (new)
    • Flashing & edging (new and a minimum of 4’ long)
    • Guttering accessories (new and a minimum of 4’ long)
    • Shingles (new and a minimum of five bundles; must be marked with manufacture date or contain the words “no asbestos.”)
    • Roofing tile (full pieces of clay or concrete tile)
    • Roofing vents (complete and fully functional)
  • Siding
    • Vinyl siding (new, uncut sheets, undamaged)
    • Metal siding (new or used, undamaged)
    • Wood-based siding (minimum of 6’ long or half sheets)
    • Concrete-based siding (in original packing marked with either manufacture date or containing the words “no asbestos”)

Cabinets

We accept the following cabinets and accessories if they are in good condition:

  • Bathroom Cabinets
  • Kitchen Cabinets
  • Cabinet pulls & hinges (without excessive wear or paint)
  • Doors, without cabinet (new or like new; not plywood or self-painted)
  • Drawers, without cabinet (new or like new; not plywood or self-painted)
  • Drawer guides (complete sets)
  • Faces/fronts (only with complete matching cabinet set)

We accept the following doors if they are residential size, fully functioning and in good condition (no rot, holes, dents, etc.). We also accept the following garage doors and accessories if they are complete and need no repair:

Doors

  • Bi-fold/sliding closet doors
  • Exterior/entryway doors
  • Interior doors
  • Metal & metal clad doors
  • Patio doors (with full frame and no broken seals)
  • Screen doors (with screen material intact)
  • Storm doors (with hinge piece, screen and window; top and side frame pieces included is preferred but not required)

Garage Doors

  • New doors (individual panels or complete unit with all panels, new condition with no to very minor damage)
  • Used doors (must include all panels to make a complete unit, fully operational, no to very minor damage, rust, rot, no broken panes. Hardware preferred but not required)
  • Electric garage openers (in perfect working order, less than 10 years old and needing no repairs or parts)
  • Tracks, springs, cables, rollers, hinges, etc.

We accept the following flooring materials if they are clean and well maintained. If applicable, flooring should be wrapped or boxed for pickup

  • Area rugs (with finished edges intact)
  • Carpet
    • Must be clean and free of stains
    • 10’x10’ minimum
  • Laminate (full pieces)
  • Parquet (full pieces)
  • Tile: ceramic, porcelain, marble, granite, etc. (new, full pieces ready to install in minimum qty. of 100 sq. ft.)
  • Vinyl rolls (New in original packaging, 6’x6’ or larger)
  • Vinyl tiles (New in original packaging)
  • Wood flooring (minimum length of 2’ with no nails, rot or other damage; tongues and grooves must be intact if applicable,  minimum 100 sq. ft. for pickup)

We accept the following furniture and home décor items if they are complete and in good condition. Accepted materials include metal, solid wood, MDF or select particle board.

  • Dressers/night stands
  • Bookcases
  • Shelving
  • Display cases
  • Upholstered couches, chairs, etc. (select pieces only)
  • Dining room, coffee & side tables
  • Living/dining room chairs
  • Entertainment centers (we do not accept enclosed entertainment centers designed to hold a TV)
    • Multi-piece modular units only, we no longer accept large single-piece units.
  • Armoires
    • Clothing units only – no converted pieces.
  • Mirrors (any size if they are framed, unframed 4’x4’ or smaller)
  • Bed frames and head/footboards (excluding wall-mounted headboards)
  • Office furniture (on a case-by-case basis for residential use)
  • Blinds & shades (full functioning and modern)
    • Due to new ANSI regulations, we may only accept blinds without an exposed cord or that say “Best for Kids”.
  • Curtain rods (wooden or metal)
  • Wallpaper (new and in the original package)

We do not accept:

  • Mattresses/box springs
  • Sleeper sofas
  • Cribs or children’s furniture
  • Curtains/drapes/valences
  • Exercise equipment
  • Steel/large executive desks
  • Office cube walls or attachments

Hardware and Tools

We accept the following hardware items if they are fully functional and in good condition:

  • Door locks & knobs (packaged individually for easy reassembly)
  • Hinges (with all parts)
  • Miscellaneous hardware (sorted by type)
  • Hand tools (construction or gardening)
  • Hand-held corded electric power tools (with a plastic body)
  • Lithium-ion hand-held power tools (new only)
  • Stationary power tools (with all parts)
  • Gas-powered tools (in good, working condition)
  • Ladders (new or used with no damage or broken parts, must have safety information stickers present and readable for retail)

We accept the following heating and cooling accessories if they are in perfect working order and well maintained:

  • Furnaces/heat pumps (gas or electric; less than 15 years old)
  • Air filters (new, in original package)
  • Water heaters (manufactured after 2014 in compliance with the Safe Drinking Water Act)
  • Window air conditioners (relatively modern)
  • Air conditioners (if used, properly removed with a pipe cutter and pipe capped)
  • Evaporators/A coils (preferably with matching condenser unit)
  • Thermostats (electronic/digital without mercury bulb)
  • Ducts (minimum of 2’ long sections)
  • Duct fittings
  • Vents/covers (without excessive paint)
  • Standalone fireplaces (non-venting)
  • Fireplace inserts
  • Fireplace fronts & doors
  • Fireplace tools
  • Gas logs
  • Wood cradles

We accept the following appliances if they are in working order, well maintained, and less than 20 years old unless otherwise noted. We also accept a variety of kitchen cabinets, countertops and wall tiles.

  • Beverage centers & wine chillers
  • Cooktops/stovetops
  • Refrigerators/freezers (refrigerators that have ice makers and water dispensers manufactured after 2014 in compliance with the Safe Drinking Water Act)
  • Stoves/ranges
  • Garbage disposals
  • Microwaves
  • Trash compactors
  • Wall/convection ovens
  • Washing machines
  • Dryers (gas or electric)
  • Backsplashes & wall tile
    • Must be new, full pieces that are ready to install.
  • Cabinet doors/drawers
  • Kitchen cabinets
    • Must have all doors and drawers, with no damage and fairly up to date.
    • Metal accepted if well maintained.
  • Kitchen countertops
    • Laminate, stone, solid surface eg. Corian, granite, etc.
      • Due to weight restrictions, we can only PICKUP stone and solid surface that are 12 sq. ft. and under. Laminate is not included in this restriction.
    • Must have no chips, cracks or other damage to structure or finished surface.
    • Common cutouts only (eg. sink and cooktop), in rectangles or L-shapes only, unless it accompanies a matching cabinet.
    • Limited laminate rolls accepted with prior approval only.
  • Kitchen & bar sinks
    • Removal of faucet preferred.
    • New or used; normal wear and tear is okay.
    • No chips, spider veins or deep scratches in finish.
    • All materials accepted, including cast iron with approval.
  • Islands
    • Must have all doors and drawers with no damage and fairly up to date.
    • Metal accepted if well maintained.

We accept the following lighting and electrical fixtures if they are fully functional, in good condition and if all hardware is included:

  • Ceiling fans
  • Conduit (new or used in minimum 4′ sections)
  • Wire (new or used in any gauge, type or length)
  • Commercial electrical supplies (for residential use, with manager approval)
  • Lights: ceiling, can, hanging, track, wall-mount, exterior (protected for transport)
  • Lamps: floor, table and desk (complete with shade preferred)

We do not accept:

  • Electronics (TVs, computers, stereos, etc.)
  • Fluorescent lighting or fixtures
  • Commercial lighting
  • PCB-containing fluorescent lights
  • Light fixtures with old, cloth-insulated wiring
  • Light Bulbs

We accept the following outdoor items if they are in good shape and if all parts are included:

  • Decking (wood or composite and a minimum size of 100 sq. ft. if pickup)
  • Fire pits/patio heaters
  • Grills (if gas, without propane tank)
  • Patio furniture: tables, chairs, benches, swings and umbrellas (with little to no rust)
  • Landscape edging
  • Landscape fabric (new only)
  • Wall, veneer and landscape stone (for pickup must be palletized with forklift available)
  • Fencing (wood, metal, wrought iron, composite and chain link, 10’ minimum)
  • Other fencing materials (gates, top rails, chicken wire, orange construction fence, silt/erosion control, snow fence, etc.)
  • Swing sets & playsets (if disassembled for transport instructions included for assembly
  • Swing sets & playsets components (slides, swings, etc. and wood that meets lumber criteria)

We accept all paint that meets the requirements listed below. For industrial/professional paint donations, please call (816) 231-6889 to schedule a pick-up.

  • We accept full containers of latex and oil-based paints and stains.
  • Paint cannot be hardened and must be in the original container with the original label
  • No rusted and dented cans.

We do not accept:

  • Chemicals, including cleaning products, pesticides, insecticides, herbicides, rodenticides, fertilizers, etc.

We accept the following windows and accessories if they are standard residential size, fully functioning and in good condition (no rot, holes, dents, etc.).

  • Storm windows (aluminum only with glass intact)
  • All window types in good condition (glass intact)
  • Window sashes (new only)
  • Screen material (new only in full or partial rolls)
  • Wooden shutters (without multiple layers of paint or excess peeling)
  • Cordless blinds and shades (no vertical blinds)
  • Curtain rods
