This week Honda unveiled the 11th iteration of its longest running model, and besides a new look, there's also some notable tech differences in the 2022 Civic sedan. Show Other highlights of the revamped model include changes to its driver assist technology, which became standard across all trim levels starting with the 2019 model year. The updated version of Honda Sensing in the new model has a camera with a wider field of view, better software and a more powerful processor. According to Honda, that means it's capable of "more quickly and accurately identifying pedestrians, bicyclists and other vehicles" than the previous system that used a combination of camera and radar. This time around it's also able to read traffic signs and relay their information to the driver right in the dash. It uses eight sonar sensors to assist with features like Low-Speed Braking Control and to prevent front and rear false starts. This is also the first vehicle from Honda with the new redesigned airbags that are supposed to help prevent brain trauma for the driver or passenger during angled front collisions.  Honda Also new inside are standard color touchscreens previously seen in models like the Accord, with 7-inch displays on lower trim models and an optional 9-inch version on the Touring trim. The Touring version also has a Bose audio system, wireless Qi charging and the ability to connect wirelessly to your phone for Android Auto or Apple CarPlay — by comparison, when the 10th generation model rolled out it was just the second Honda with CarPlay or Android Auto support at all. For the driver, the Touring edition has a 10.2-inch all-digital instrument cluster. Honda Autoblog has more details on the new model that's larger, wider and missing a coupe version this time around. The Honda Civic is small car royalty, and for its all-new, 11th generation, it's arguably better looking (inside and out) than ever before. Now we know what the new 2022 Civic sedan is like to drive—and have a very good idea of how much it will cost when it finally arrives in dealerships in June. Honda's online configurator for the four-door is live with official pricing for the entire 2022 Civic sedan lineup; the yet-to-be-revealed Civic Hatchback is not included. There will be four Civic sedan trims: LX, Sport, EX, and Touring. The entry-level Civic LX starts at $22,695—just $450 more than last year's model. Gaps between the other 2022 trim levels and their 2021 counterparts are similarly negligible, surprising given the former is nearly all-new. Civic LX models serve as the base trim yet include Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a digital driver's display, a 7.0-inch infotainment display, LED headlights, and Honda Sensing (with adaptive cruise control and lane keep assist) as standard kit. Next up is the Civic Sport, which features keyless entry, an eight-speaker sound system, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, 18-inch alloy wheels, a chromed exhaust, and paddle shifters for the CVT automatic—remember, manuals won't be offered on sedans not badged "Si" for this 11th generation. Civic Sport models will start from $24,095, a negligible $50 more than the current Sport's starting price. The EX-trimmed Civic starts at $25,695 and gets everything from the aforementioned trims plus different alloy wheels, heated seats, blind-spot monitoring, dual-zone automatic climate control, and a 60/40-split folding rear seat. Civic EX models also upgrade to the 1.5-liter turbocharged I-4 engine under the hood as opposed to the standard 2.0-liter naturally aspirated unit. The addition of a turbo brings an appreciable bump in power despite the lower displacement, with horsepower rising from 158 hp to 180 and torque jumping from 138 lb-ft to 177. Top-of-the-line Civics are dubbed Touring models. They feature the upgraded engine along with leather seats, navigation, bigger displays for the driver's display and the infotainment setup, a 12-speaker Bose audio system, wireless charging pad, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto integration, and more. Prices for Touring start at $29,295, exactly the same as the current Touring. Given these prices, the new Civic sedan is shaping up to not only be a handsome daily driver, but a reasonably priced one too.
