Peacock is primarily an on-demand streaming service with thousands of TV shows and
movies available at your fingertips, and it also streams live TV. Well, sort of: Unlike YouTube TV or Sling TV, Peacock doesn’t carry live-right-now cable or local channels, but 24/7 loops of content from its library divvied up into dozens of “channels.” Ever used Pluto TV or Sling Free? It’s like that. Peacock does carry a handful of actual live news and
sports channels in its lineup, like NBC News Now, NFL Channel, NBC Sports, Premier League TV, and WWE. The news channels can be viewed on the free version of Peacock, but live sports are available only on Peacock’s paid Premium ($4.99 a month, with ads) or Premium Plus ($9.99 a month, without ads) tiers. Most of Peacock’s 50+ channels are self-explanatory, like Fallon Tonight (episodes and clips from The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon), SNL Vault (Saturday Night
Live sketches and videos), and The Bob Ross Channel (all Bob painting, all the time). Others, like Out of This World (hours of Ancient Aliens), Can’t Not Laugh (endless episodes of The Office), and Witching Hour (all the classic Charmed magic you can handle), are a little less so. Unlike Paramount+, which livestreams local CBS channels in most areas, Peacock doesn’t carry local
NBC affiliates live. It does have channels dedicated to rebroadcasting newscasts from NBC channels in Boston, Chicago, Philadelphia, and South Florida, however. Live sports events on Peacock’s channels include NBC Sunday Night Football,
Premier League soccer matches, and WWE Network shows and pay-per-view events (paid Premium and Premium Plus tiers only). Peacock also livestreams Winter and Summer Olympics events not broadcast by NBC.
