"I keep my main dutch oven and skillet on the stove at all times, but the majority of my cast iron is stored on these shelves I built out of an old barn we tore down. It’s right over my main prep area, next to my stove. I also keep a magnet handy on one of my hanging skillets so I can hang a recipe up right in front of me."

Should you oil cast iron before storing?

Yes, oiling your cast iron before storage is the best way to help protect it from rust. Add a thin layer of oil after every use of your cast iron cookware.

Can you store cast iron pans on top of each other?

Never stack cast-iron cookware directly on top of each another without anything between to protect them, as this is a surefire way to scratch enameled cast iron and inadvertently transfer any sticky residue or excess seasoning oil from the bottom of one skillet to the top of another.

How do you store cast iron in a humid climate?

For folks living in more humid climates we recommend sprinkling a little dry rice in the bottom of a Dutch oven on top of using an air wick. The rice will absorb any added moisture during storage. You can also add a little charcoal to the bottom of a Dutch oven.

Should I oil my cast iron after every use?

How often should I season my skillet? — To get the best out of your cast iron skillet, it's recommended that you oil it after each use. However, depending on how frequently you use it, 2-3 times a year is sufficient.
