Amazon can i cancel an order after it ships

On the Internet, we're so used to ordering something with one click that sometimes we order things accidentally.

I was drowsily browsing iPad mini cases before bed one night in the Amazon app on my Apple tablet, when I must have brushed past the 1-click button. I drifted off to sleep and woke up to a message that my Yippee Series spring light pink smart cover(Opens in a new window) was on its way. Despite the very cheery-sounding name, I wasn't thinking pink or even smart cover when I was dressing my iPad mini. And I wish I could say that this was the first time such a thing has happened to me, but I've accidentally downloaded more than one book for my Kindle in the past.

So what to do? I've got the answers, whether you've accidentally purchased an Apple Watch ($300.00 at eBay)(Opens in a new window)  or never meant to download Go Set a Watchman.

An Ounce of Prevention Is Worth a Dollar of Cure
The best way to correct something is to prevent it. So turning off one-click is the place to start. On Amazon.com, go to Your Account > Settings > 1-Click Settings > 1-Click Status. You'll see the option "Turn Off Everywhere." Do it.

For the Kindle Fire, if you're concerned about accidental Amazon content store purchases (like in the Amazon Appstore) you can enable parental controls and save yourself from yourself. Swipe down from the top of the screen and go to Quick Settings > More > Parental Controls > On. Enter and confirm a password and press Finish. This won't change your settings for your Kindle or for Amazon Video purchases on non-Kindle Fire devices, though.

Now on to what to do if you have bought something you didn't mean to.

Amazon.com
If, like me, you've purchased an item from "Earth's most customer-centric company," then your best bet is to stop it before it ships. Go to Your Orders > Cancel Items. Select the items you wish to cancel and then Cancel Checked Items.

If you realized too late that you ordered something and it's already shipped, then go to Your Orders > Return or Replace Items. Then from the drop-down choose Bought By Mistake. You'll be able to choose a return option and print a return label. Some items(Opens in a new window) cannot be returned. If you've purchased one of them, contact Amazon directly(Opens in a new window).

Kindle Book
Downloading a book for the Kindle is the easiest of processes. Almost too easy. So if you really meant to buy Pride and Prejudice and not Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, go to Manage Your Content and Devices within seven days and select Your Content > Actions (next to the book title) > Return for Refund. Or contact Customer Service.

Amazon Video
If you never intended to watch the film version of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies but accidentally purchased it, you can get a refund within 24 hours as long as you haven't streamed or downloaded it. Go to Digital Orders > Cancel Items > Reason For Cancellation > Cancel This Purchase.

Amazon Digital Music
You can't return something you've mistakenly downloaded from Amazon Digital Music. But you can contact Amazon(Opens in a new window) and see what you can work out.

Amazon Appstore
Likewise, something from the Appstore is yours forever. But again, try contacting Amazon(Opens in a new window) to see if they'll bend the rules a bit.

Amazon gives us the power to late-night shop as we please. However, that may not always be a good thing. Because of this, we may occasionally make impulse purchases and later regret scrolling through our wishlist.

Although Amazon is excellent about returning accidental orders, what if you can stop them from being delivered in the first place? You have a few variables to consider that can save some headaches in the long run. In this guide, we'll go over how you can cancel an Amazon order to keep you from having to return it afterward.

How to cancel an order from the Amazon app

Open the Amazon app to the main screen.

  1. Tap the profile icon at the bottom and then press the Your Orders button.
  2. Scroll through the list, if needed, and tap the item you wish to cancel.

How long do I have to cancel an order?

You have the opportunity to safely cancel an order just before it has been shipped from the warehouse or seller. If you see that your items are being packed and prepared for shipping, you still have a high success rate of canceling the order. As such, you'll notice a message that cancellation is not always guaranteed from this point in the order process. You might be able to avoid delivery here, so it's worth a shot since they're usually lenient while it's still in the warehouse.

Can I cancel an order while it's in the process of being delivered?

Canceling your order becomes more challenging once it has been loaded onto the carrier vehicle. You can still request to cancel delivery for that order, but it may not always work this late in the process. It depends on the shipping carrier and the driver if you can cancel your order during their delivery route. If Amazon is shipping and delivering your items, you likely have a greater chance of canceling at this stage since it's a first-party carrier.

What happens if I can't cancel an order?

If you can't cancel an order for delivery after trying every step of the way, you might be stuck with it. You'll have to let the package be delivered like usual before requesting a refund. From there, you'll need to access your Amazon account to initiate a return process and send the order back as soon as possible. Once Amazon or the seller receives and inspects your items, they'll issue a refund to the original payment method you used.

What if I have questions about my order?

Now that you know how to cancel an item or order from your Amazon account, you can avoid unnecessary deliveries in the future. And if you ever have questions about a product you purchased, you can contact the seller on Amazon to ask questions, make a complaint, or leave feedback.

What if I don't want to deal with shipping the item back?

Well, we often have to do lots of things we don't like; however, Amazon does offer an alternative for select items. If you prefer, you can return approved items to Amazon stores or your local Kohl's. For the most part, you can return items purchased directly from Amazon that are eligible for returns to brick-and-mortar stores. If you live in a building with Amazon Apartment Locker, you can even make returns from your mailroom. If none of these options work, you can arrange a pick-up at an Amazon Hub Locker.

What happens if you cancel an Amazon order after it ships?

Orders that have already been shipped cannot be canceled. If a cancellation request is submitted at this point, the seller should contact the buyer and inform him that the item has already been shipped. The buyer has the option to return the item for a refund.

Can we cancel order once shipped in Amazon?

To cancel an order that has already been dispatched: Go to Your Orders. Select the Request cancellation option and proceed further. The item(s) will be returned to us for a refund (if the payment is already made)

Can I cancel my order after shipped?

No, you cannot cancel an order after it has been shipped. However, if it is absolutely necessary to cancel the order you can ask your customer to not accept the order at the time when it is delivered.
