2023 lincoln corsair vs 2023 cadillac xt4

Lincoln has been Ford's luxury arm for over a century now, and they have certainly been through some interesting periods throughout history. At one point, they were top ranks in the luxury car segment, maybe only behind Cadillac. They also sent the full-size luxury segment into oblivion with the original Navigator in 1998, prompting the creation of the Escalade the following year, as well as everything else that followed from that segment.

Throughout the 2000s, Lincoln fell by the wayside just a little. However, this automaker started to experience a bit of a renaissance with the introduction of the current Navigator back in 2018, which they also recently redesigned. Lincoln's lineup is now comprised of SUVs, and their entrant into the highly competitive compact crossover segment, the Corsair, just received a host of updates for the 2023 model year.

2023 Corsair Overview

The Lincoln Corsair is Lincoln's compact luxury crossover, which first arrived on the market back in 2019 as a 2020 model year vehicle. For 2023, Lincoln has given the Corsair some updates, both in terms of styling and features. The Corsair rides on FoMoCo's C2 platform, a version of which also underpins the Ford Escape and the Bronco Sport. Obviously, Lincoln has given the Corsair their own special twist, and it's certainly a different vehicle compared to its platform siblings.

The styling of the Corsair is subtle, but certainly premium and intent. For 2023, there's a new front grille design, as well as a few new optional alloy wheels. There's also two new colors to choose from, Crystal Red and Whisper Blue (pictured above). One important benefit that the Corsair offers, and one of the perks of using the C2 platform, is a plug-in hybrid powertrain. Another piece of big news regarding the Corsair is the segment-first hands-free driving system that it offers. The 2023 Corsair debuts with three available trim levels, Standard, Reserve, and Grand Touring. It also faces some pretty fierce competition from the darlings of this segment, including the BMW X3, the Mercedes-Benz GLC, the new Lexus NX, which is a huge improvement on the previous one, the Cadillac XT4, and the excellent-for-families Audi Q5.

2023 Corsair Powertrains And Drivetrains

The 2023 Lincoln Corsair is available with two powertrains. Unfortunately, Lincoln has discontinued the 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine, so that leaves the base engine and the plug-in hybrid. The base model uses a 2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder with 250 hp and 280 lb-ft of torque. It's available with either FWD or AWD, and a 10-speed automatic transmission takes care of transporting power to the wheels.

The plug-in hybrid, meanwhile, uses a 2.5-liter naturally-aspirated four-cylinder, running the more efficient Atkinson cycle, paired to an electric component, for a total output of 266 horsepower and an electric-only range of around 28 miles. Gas mileage for the PHEV is also pretty good, an EPA-estimated 34 MPG in the city, and 32 MPG on the highway. Unfortunately, if you want the PHEV, you have to spring for the Grand Touring trim level, as the other two are only available with the turbo four. On the other hand, that might be beneficial, as Lincoln is pitching the Corsair as the more luxurious, decidedly un-sporty alternative to most of its competitors. The PHEV gets two additional drive modes over the standard model, those being Pure EV and Preserve EV. Pure EV is pretty self-explanatory, whereas Preserve EV runs both the engine and the e-motor while preserving the charge of the batteries.

2023 Corsair Comfort And Quality

The 2023 Corsair also receives some pretty major changes on the interior. One of the most notable ones is the infotainment display, which is now a 13.2-inch unit, a major upgrade from the previous model's 8.0-inch unit. It's also running the latest SYNC4 software, with full Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support right out of the gate. There are also two new interior colors available. The Corsair follows along with other Lincoln models in the range, with a nicely appointed and surprisingly luxurious interior, and some great available features to boot.

Perhaps the biggest news about the comfort, and especially safety tech on the new Corsair is the ActiveGlide self-driving system. This system was previously only available on the Navigator, but it has now trickled down to the Corsair, running the 1.2 version. This means, given the right conditions, the Corsair can drive itself on mapped highways, and that includes autonomous lane changes, in-lane repositioning and a lot more. The CoPilot360 ADAS suite is also available on the Corsair, as well as some other features like a 360-degree camera system. The Corsair seats five passengers, and the cargo area boasts 26.9 cubic-feet of space with the rear seats up, and 56.2 cubic-feet with the rear seats down. That's not the best in class, but it's still pretty good.

2023 Corsair Pricing And Launch

The 2023 Lincoln Corsair is available to order as of September 2022, and it's slated to arrive in dealers in early 2023. The PHEV powertrain means that it will only be available at Lincoln EV-certified dealerships. The Standard trim starts at $38,690, the Reserve at $43,075, and the Grand Touring at $53,385. The sudden jump in price for the Grand Touring is because it gets the PHEV powertrain by default. If you're after a compact crossover with subtler styling and a bigger focus on comfort and luxury, the Corsair might just be up your alley.
