Dec 20, 2020 Got this warning yesterday, after just 27+ months of ownership . Just wondering if any other 10th gen owner has also experienced this, or maybe I'm one of the unlucky ones. Anyone know if the battery is covered by the 36 month bumper-to-bumper warranty? I guess I'll ask them when I bring it in for the BCM software update recall next week. Joined

I got a low battery warning in my key fob only about a year and a half after I bought the car. It's just a coin cell, and I replaced it myself. I can't imagine Honda including it in their warranty. You may, of course, be having us on, and if so, I fell for it. - Jack

Key fob batteries are not usually covered under warranty. While older-style key fob batteries can last for years without replacement, the lifespan of the batteries in keyless fobs are a lot less. The lifespan is a lot less because unlike an old-school key fob that only depletes the battery when you press the buttons, the keyless fobs are constantly
'talking' with the car whenever you walk past the car (if equipped with Smart Access) or when you sit in it for a few minutes before you actually start it, and so on. It's a pretty cheap battery- a CR2032. You can get a pack of four or five of them on Amazon for like $5. It takes about thirty seconds to replace- and the procedure it explained in the owners manual. Remove the physical key from the key fob and use it to pry open the fob. Take the old battery out, put the new battery in,
and then snap it back together and reinsert the metal key. Done. You might be able to get the dealer to replace it as a goodwill gesture... but it's seriously not a big deal. Joined May 6, 2005 · 281 Posts
Discussion Starter · #4 · Dec 21, 2020 Thanks for the replies. Yes, it's trivial matter but since I will be going into the dealership anyway, I thought I would just ask. For past key fobs, it just seems the original battery normally lasts longer than replacement batteries, not sure why. Joined Apr 16, 2018 · 89 Posts
Got my key fob warning at 22 months from new. Battery was like $2.00, cheaper if you buy online multipack.... and it took about 30 seconds to change. No screws to remove, just take your key out from the remote, then take a thinner key or screw driver and put it between the two plastic "mini pillars" or protrusions up top and twist. The fob will open at the
seam. Replace battery and then press the two pieces of plastic fobs back. Joined Jul 23, 2018 · 111 Posts
I recently got the low battery warning on fob #1 and replaced the battery. But now that fob won't work with the car, so I'm using fob #2. What is the programming procedure to pair a fob back to the car after battery replacement?

Ah, I pulled out the "new" CR2032 is it only measured 2.2 volts. Put in another one after testing it had 3 volts, and all is good. Thanks! Joined Jul 2, 2018 · 2,477 Posts
Yes, it would be great if the gas in my fuel tank was covered under warranty, too. I mean we knock the dealership service folks all day long, but the things they deal with everyday... Joined Sep 6, 2004 · 10,220 Posts

The things we ask of our control fobs these days pales in comparison to 1990 Viper alarm fobs, but yet we expect the same battery life or of course we compare it to "my cousin's brother in law who has had his for 10 years without changing the battery" lest be told the guy actually drove his car once in the past 10 years but you know, details. I replace the batter in the remote and the car starts but how do I get the message that the battery is low to go away? Joined Aug 22, 2021 · 100 Posts
My dealer went out of the way to tell me explicitly that even the key fobs themselves are NOT covered under the factory warranty. What does keyless remote battery low mean on Honda Accord? If the battery in your keyless entry remote is running low, you'll notice a decrease in range and eventually a lack of response. Replacing your Honda key battery is easy and takes less than five minutes.

As the fob battery becomes weaker, the transmitter loses its range. This means that you have to be closer to the car for the fob to work. In cars with a push-button start, a vehicle may not always recognize a smart key fob in your pocket or purse if the fob battery is weak.
