Oil Pan Replacement

Hey guys. So, long story short, I was teaching my wife how to change oil on a car (my car was the test dummy

). Everything was going fine and as she was tightening the drain bolt she said out from under the car, "is it normal that after it got tight it gets loose?"...... Yeah, so the oil pan is now stripped and I want to get it replaced. I am having a hard time finding the part number for it. I have a 2015 335i 6mt. I have been looking for one but i cant find it. Do any of you know the part number and where i can find one for relatively cheap?

Use realoem to find the part number. You will also need a new gasket and mounting screws.

Awesome, thanks!! I called a dealership and they quoted me at $1,485 for the pan, gasket and bolts.... using that site you sent me, i found everything for around $850!

Have you looked into tapping it out to a slightly larger size or using a product intended for pans with damaged threads? Pretty sure you have to drop the subframe to replace the pan so sizeable labor time/costs in addition to the costs of the parts.

Was she using a torque wrench? I think the spec is 25nM (around 18 ft-lb), incidentally, the same as the oil filter cap.

As mentioned, I'd try to drill and tap it. Then go get a torque wrench.

This is correct. Subframe will need to be dropped.

I can do all the work myself, so no cost for labor really besides my own time. And, i know that i can re-thread it using some kits, but it will always be looming over my head that it could start leaking at any time.

That tool seems pretty neat.

So the reason I had my oil pan (gasket) replaced is because I bought the 100k mile BMW warranty and I saw some oil seepage on the gaskets around 90000 miles. It wasn't a leak and if someone never removed the under engine cover they never would have seen it until it was too late and way past any type of warranty. It made sense to have it done via warranty and not have to worry about it until the car gets to 200k miles.

Oh it sure did. After coming out with this kit, we got feedback from the shop foremans that prior to this tool, they would fix these stripped oil drain plug with a timesert or heli-coil. Though theoretically those should work, the situation is usually fixed while the customer is waiting, so the loctite doesn't have time to cure properly. Meaning the timesert or heli-coil usually comes out on the next oil change.

We came out with a double oversize kit that makes it go from a 14mm to a 16mm. Same tools, same process, just bigger.

I know this is an old post but I stripped my plug a while back and used a time sert to fix it. Now the time cert comes out every time. Will this kit allow me to fix that permanently or do I need the oversized version to get it sorted? THanks in advance.

above is what I used to fix mine. Torque to 25 ft lbs and you are good to go. Hopefully the timesert didn't expand the hole too much, if it did, then look into the M15 version.
