2006 mazda 6 aftermarket stereo kit

Hello everyone.
I was going to purchase a JVC Stereo for my 2005 Mazda 6. but the only installation kit I can find is the $150-ish Metra kit. I have searched for a while and cant find anything cheaper. I looked around this forum and didn't find anything either.

So, does anyone know of a cheaper kit I can get?

Metra is your only option for single DIN and Kantech I believe is the option for double DIN (or you can customize the Metra for a double DIN setup). You can get a Metra faceplate 1/2 off at crutchfield if you buy your HU front the site. Or you can try to find someone to sell you a used one (I got mine used for $45). We really have limitied out of the box audio solutions for the center console not to mention the info displays for the 03-05 are very failure prone. Good luck.

The absolute cheapest solution would be to install it completely separate from the stock system, like in the glovebox.

Other than that, the shitty metra kit is the only option.

just upgrade around your stock head unit. any aftermarket kit looks cheap, and ruins the flow of the center console.

i installed a JL Audio Cleansweep digital sound processor to handle all my audio tuning. and a Auxmod input addition so i can listen to Pandora on my phone through my stock unit.

Or under the seat (I did this for awhile). I also thought about under the steering wheel because I could make a cover to fit it flush but I don't really want an aftermarket hu.

Like monoxide said, the cheapest and easiest thing to do would be keep the stock hu and build a system off of that. And JL cleansweep (not KL typing error).

C'mon guys, with a little creativity you can make even the ugly-a$$ Metra look nice and flow with the car, it's the $150 price tag that sucks the most.

But I agree with you guys: if you want to keep looks and still put some money in the car, new speakers, add a sub/amp, etc might be a better option than putting money down on that kit.

Not if done right! Find a used Metra, wrap it along with your other center console pieces, and it looks fantastic. I just finished mine up yesterday... and it looks great.

actually thats exactly the look i dont like. its a huge open panel. with a single little Din opening. it like building a huge two story house, then putting a little small single window right in the middle of it. lol. i dig your temperature knobs though.

instead with me, i have better sound quality then the vast majority of aftermarket stereos, and no one would ever give my car a 2nd look cause nothing sticks out.

Yeah good point. I don't think about that stuff, I'm lucky enough to live in a really nice area so I don't think about that stuff. Except they'll probably snag your rims if anything Monoxide

Of course it's a personal opinion whether or not you like it, I personally will never put the metra kit in my car. For the price of a decent head unit and the metra kit, I would rather have a Bit.tenD and have insanely more control over the sound quality than a head unit at that price. Or I'd rather just buy a f'in ipad and mount it there.

A couple years ago when I was living at a different apartment, I woke up early one morning and walked out onto the balcony, only to see a guy filing a report with the police.

The passenger side of his car was jacked up and both rims on that side were gone, the driver side where still there though. They weren't oem though obviously.

It's not so much the paint/texture that bothers me, as that can be wrapped. It's the fact that it just looks so damn empty.

That headunit install would drive me nuts looking at it.

this is sadly the most common type of modded car around me. there called Donk's. and this one is a themed donk. there's a Mike & Ike green and yellow one also, and a ton others.

but hey, it would make changing oil really easy!

Lol There are some of those around my home. + there's a Kellogg's one, green bay Packers, and a couple others, not lifted THAT much but they're lifted with at least 24" dubs.
