2 Seat Belt problem

Failure Date: 10/02/2020

I own a used 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo 4x4. The driver's and passenger's side seat belts are not latching unless I press down on the red button. The red seat belt indicator light won't go off and the audible chimes continuously and will not shut off while driving. The vehicle manual does describe a method in which you can disable the seatbelt indicator chime. However, to be able to do this you must be able to have the seatbelt in the buckled position, which the vehicle is not able to detect as the seatbelts are faulty. The only way to stop the chime is to snip the seat belt sensor and ground wires coming from the vehicles computer underneath the driver and passenger seats and splice them together. This will ground out the sensor but it also causes the airbag warning light to come on. So, you have to choose between either having airbags and a nonstop seatbelt indicator chime, or no chime and no airbags. This is troublesome.

Failure Date: 11/01/2017

In the last month or so, I've noticed that the seatbelt won't stay completely latched with the buckle in the driver and passenger seats. This causes the seatbelt light to come in at random times. In order to buckle the seat belt, you also need to depress the red buckle button slightly and insert the latch plate.

9 Seat Belt problem

Failure Date: 08/10/2017

Less then 30 days ago I purchased a used 2006 Jeep cherokee laredo 4x2. The dealer said the airbag sensor just needed replaced no big deal. Now I am experiencing the same thing as alot of older people. The driver's side seat belt started not latching unless I press down on the red button. So then the red seat belt indicator light won't go off and the audible chimes continuously and will not shut off while driving no matter what I do. Moving the seat belt around to try and get the chime to stop as well as the audible chiming while driving makes it very annoying and distracting from the road. I need answers on why this should be at my cost when between the airbag and seat belt sensors are truly safety issue. Their is no warranty at 154457 miles. Please advise on the airbag recall etc. . . The airbag light was on when purchased 7/18/17. The seat belt chiming and light started staying on 8/10/17.

13 Seat Belt problem

Seat belt latch on passenger front will not latch without pushing the red button in and will not turn off red indicator light on dash. All the interior door latch handles are breaking or are already broken making it nearly impossible to open door from inside. Both would be dangerous in an accident situation.

14 Seat Belt problem

Failure Date: 03/17/2017

I too have had the issue with the seat belts not locking unless pushing down red release . Before that happened though, the latch lost contact and bell chimed till ignition was turned off as the seat registers when body is in seat. I called Chrysler and they acted stupid but did give me maneuver to deactivate chime which can be found on youtube also. My other issue happened within the first 500 miles of being new. Exhaust manifold on left side failed and they said it was the gasket and fixed. Then 2 years later the other side did same thing and they fixed. Then after warranty was over the left side went again. This time they said it was cracked stud and they wanted 1200 to drill it out and replace. I called Chrysler out on this and after back and forth they finally took care of it. Well that same side has noise again huh.

15 Seat Belt problem

Failure Date: 02/06/2017

The seat belt first started not buckling unless I pushed down the red button. Then it begin to chime when someone is sitting in the seat with the seat belt buckled. The buckle must be held a certain way for it not to chime while in motion. This is a safety hazard. The dealer is charging approximately $900-$975 to replace both seat belts. This should become a recall for the safety issue plus lots of people are having this same problem.

16 Seat Belt problem

Failure Date: 07/08/2016

Both front seatbelts stopping allowing the buckle to be latched with inserting the latch unless I depress the release button. After a few months the passenger seat belt light began illuminating and chiming but the buckle was latched. If I moved the latch within the buckle at a certain angle it would stop but I'd have to hold it there causing a safety issue while driving or have the passenger do this task. When I am stopped the chiming stops but the light stay on. The chiming restarts once the vehicle is in motion. I looked up seatbelt replacements and the dealer charges about $200 each for just the buckles. I was amazed that this is not a recall after researching and seeing hundreds of posts just like this one. How can this be petitioned for a recall? does someone really need to be killed before we use some common sense here? please help. Most people don't have $500 plus to spend on something that is clearly a manufacturer flaw. Common Jeep/Chrysler time to step up and do the right thing!! possibly first and last Jeep I buy if no solution. . .

17 Seat Belt problem

Failure Date: 06/11/2016

The middle seat belt in the back seat is tightened to the point of not being usable. The plastic lock that prevents the seat belt from retracting too far broke off while using the 40/60 split feature. Upon online research, this is a known common problem with several model year Chrysler vehicles. This is also the only seat belt compliant for child car seats so to have it not working is a safety concern.

Failure Date: 05/05/2016

During rain storms both driver and passenger sides are flooded with water. This has ruined carpet in vehicle and will probably rust the bottom of the car. - vehicle stationery in driveway of home. The safety belts both driver and passenger sides are not working - do not secure unless you push down hard to engage the belt into lock mode. I do not feel safe when I have to manually engage the belt hook into the lock. I had an accident and crashed into a fence, the airbag did not deploy. Vehicle in motion at time. When I start the engine , vehicle still in park mode, it accelerates in high mode without stepping on gas pedal. On a city street.

19 Seat Belt problem

31 Seat Belt problem

Failure Date: 11/20/2012

This vehicle was purchased from a previous private owner on or about 19 November 2012. The two forward seat belt buckles, at time the of purchase were already experiencing the problem. Neither one of the buckles would allow you to freely snap in or latch the other end of the belt. The only way one could get the belts latched was to press in the "red release button" on the buckle - it would then lock in place as normal. To unlatch the belt, one would press the "red release button as normal and they would release. However, once it was locked into place, the seat belt light on the dash panel would not go out. It remained on and the chimes would continue to sound as if the belts had not been mated. Eventually, the chimes would shutdown, but the light would remain on. The other strange thing is that the chimes would return when one stopped at a traffic light and began to accelerate. The chimes would remain on for an extended length of time before they shutoff. I took it to a dealer and was advised that I needed to replace the locking buckle assembly on both the driver's side and passenger side to correct the problem. I did order the parts from the dealer and had a mechanic replace the assemblies. There has been no issue with the belts since the replacement. According to the dealer and the information I have accessed on the internet, there has been no recall regarding this problem. The Chrysler mopar part number for the driver's side is 1cb121d5ab and is called, "assembly, pretensioner with microswitch".

32 Seat Belt problem

Failure Date: 07/09/2012

I bought this Jeep in March on 2012 , then few months after buying it the drivers seat belt stopped latching unless I depressed it to make it latch then a month or so later the passengers seat belt started doing the same thing. But since then the seat belt chime started going off and the seat belt light on the dash started staying on too. At first you could unbuckle the passengers seat belt and rebuckle and it would stop but now if someone is in the passengers seat it doesn't stop. Now it doesn't matter whether someone is in the passengers seat or not, it will come on with just the driver in the seat and I always buckle up. The chime will keep going off for a long time but it will eventually stop for awhile but the seat belt light will stay on but if I stop at a light and start going again it will start chiming again. It is very annoying and the latches is aggravating to have to depress them to latch them. There should be a recall on these 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokees ,. I've never had a problem with one until now and it doesn't have this problem till your out of warranty, then it has to come out of our pocket. Mine is still not fixed. . . Not happy this is my 3rd Jeep Grand Cherokee to own have been wanting to get a 4th one but it may depend on how this is handled. It seems like it would be a recall on this since I'm not the only one having this problem.
