The next step in shopping local for meat eaters is to purchase the whole animal! We believe using the entire animal is the most responsible and respectful way of raising meat. We offer fresh pastured meat, available by the whole or half animal, and custom meat packs.
WHOLE LAMB
Our lambs are organically-fed and raised on pasture at VFF. If you’re not already familiar, a lamb is a sheep that is less than one year old. Our lambs are rotated regularly on pasture. Rotational grazing is the practice of moving animals through pasture to improve soil, plant and animal health. At VFF our animals are moved from one portion of pasture to another so that land has time to rest after it has been grazed. When areas of pasture are given time to rest and regenerate, this allows for forage plants to recover and deepen their root system.
We are expanding our flock of sheep year by year and building up our on farm breeding program.
We believe in nose to tail processing/eating. This is the philosophy of using every part of the animal in food preparation/selling with the mindset of letting nothing go to waste. In addition to lamb offal (organ meat) and meat cuts, we have a limited supply of sheepskins available.
WHOLE COWS | PASTURE-RAISED Beef
We currently have four cows and two oxen at the farm. In the fall of 2021, we processed two of our organically grained, pastured Holsteins. VFF beef is available at the farm store. When our own beef is not available, we have a huge selection of other beef products available to purchase from other local farmers.
Our four cows (two pregnant female Jerseys and two Waygu Holstein crosses) are out on pasture May-November. During the winter months, our cattle move up to their winter housing paddocks near the farm store. We invite our customers to the pasture and to the paddock for animal viewing but please remember there is no climbing or going into animal pens at the farm. Feeding animals is strictly prohibited and we do not allow dogs on the farm, this is for your animal and our animal's safety.
Turbo and Bandit are our two oxen. They are working animals that will be used to clear land in the future.
Pasture-raised Turkey
We collaborate with Hurd Farm in Hampton, NH for our turkey offerings. Farmers Steve and Jeremiah have a great friendship and working together is always a pleasure. What can be better than fresh, pasture-raised turkey for Thanksgiving? The turkeys are slaughtered on farm and available frozen at the farm store year round.
THANKSGIVING TURKEY
These turkeys are pasture-raised on green grass and sunshine on Hurd Farm’s 160 acres. They are never given antibiotics or hormones. Thanksgiving week, we also have them available fresh.
PASTURED CHICKEN
We specialize in nonGMO pasture-raised chicken.
