I'm not the biggest fan of white chocolate. And I love my coffee black. But when I want a sweet treat, there's something about Starbucks' Iced White Chocolate Mocha that I just can't resist.

They are SO good. And luckily, they're also really easy to make at home.

☕️ What is an iced white chocolate mocha?

According to Starbucks, this iced drink is an espresso with white chocolate sauce, milk, and ice, which is then topped off with sweetened whipped cream.

When I make Starbucks copycat drinks, I always try to follow their ingredient list very closely to get the drinks as close to authentic as possible.

This one is pretty easy as you only really need to make the white chocolate sauce. The espresso, milk, and whipped cream are pretty self-explanatory!

Starbucks uses 2% milk in their mochas and there is typically 4 pumps of white chocolate mocha sauce (roughy ½ oz in a pump) and 2 shots of espresso in a grande.

❤️ Why you'll love this recipe

If you're a fan of white chocolate, you're going to love this drink! Even if you don't like white chocolate, something tells me you'll be a fan.

This iced drink is perfect for anyone who likes a nice creamy, sweet coffee. It's delicious as a sweet afternoon treat.

Plus, it's super easy to make. Once you whip up a batch of white chocolate mocha sauce, you can keep it in your fridge and enjoy an iced white chocolate mocha whenever you want!

🗒 Ingredients

You don't need much to make this authentic Starbucks copycat; in fact, you just need a few ingredients! Here's everything you need for the coffee (see recipe card below for ingredient amounts and full directions):

  • Espresso or strongly brewed coffee
  • White chocolate mocha sauce (recipe below)
  • Milk (or dairy/nondairy alternative of you choice)
  • Ice
  • Whipped cream (optional)

And here's what you need for the white chocolate mocha sauce:

  • White chocolate
  • Fat free sweetened condensed milk
  • 2% milk (or dairy/nondairy alternative of your choice)

👩‍🍳 How to make a White Chocolate Mocha Sauce

This white mocha sauce is basically a sort of white chocolate ganache that makes for the most delicious coffee creamer. Making it is SO easy and it keeps well in the fridge.

Starbucks calls it a white chocolate "mocha" sauce, but I think that's just because they use it in their mochas. There's no actual "mocha" or coffee-flavored anything in the sauce.

Simply put roughly chopped white chocolate in a medium heat-proof bowl.

And then in a small saucepan, combine sweetened condensed milk and 2% milk over medium-low heat until it's just coming to a simmer.

If you can't find fat free sweetened condensed milk, you can use full-fat, but then maybe use skim milk instead of 2%. No matter what kind of dairy you use, this is going to be delicious; I just try to keep it as close to Starbucks' recipe as I can.

Pour the hot milk mixture over the white chocolate and let it sit for a minute.

Then, stir until the chocolate is completely melted and smooth.

Pour sauce into a heat-proof jar or bowl and let cool.

You should keep the sauce in the fridge until ready to use.

You'll obviously want to try a little bit of it with a spoon first. But just one taste! Because you're really going to want to add this to your coffee.

🧋 How to make an iced white chocolate mocha

Now that your white chocolate sauce has been made, the rest of this mocha is SO easy to make.

I recommend making it in a shaker as that really allows you to blend all the ingredients together.

Start by putting ice in the shaker and then adding the espresso (I like to brew it and then let it cool a bit) and white chocolate mocha sauce.

Add the milk, too. And then shake vigorously to combine.

Pour drink into an-ice filled cup. And top with whipped cream if desired.

Take a sip of that smooth, sweet iced mocha and realize that you could drink an entire grande in about 2 minutes flat.

This drink is out-of control delicious!

Usually when I make Starbucks copycat drinks, it takes me weeks of testing to get my version to taste like the store version. But with this iced white chocolate mocha? The first time I made it, it tasted just like Starbucks!

But that doesn't mean I didn't make it several more times just to be sure.

I told you that I drink my coffee black and don't even really like white chocolate and I couldn't get enough of this drink!

💡 Modifications

Just like when you're ordering at Starbucks, there are a lot of things you can do to make this drink your own! Here are some ideas:

  • If you like your coffee stronger and less milky and/or sweet, you can adjust the amount of milk and white chocolate sauce you use in the drink. I sometimes make this with additional shots of espresso, less milk, and less sauce. But the recipe written as is is such a special treat!
  • If you can't find fat free condensed milk for the white chocolate mocha sauce, it shouldn't be that big of a deal. I try to follow Starbucks ingredient list closely, but their sauce recipe also involves the ingredients that go into the white chocolate, so it's definitely not exact.

You can use full-fat condensed milk with skim milk or even use all half-and-half or whole milk. The type of milk you use may change the consistency of the sauce a bit, but it shouldn't be too noticeable and it will definitely be delicious no matter what!

  • You can flavor this white mocha with absolutely any flavor you want by adding a little simple syrup. Add a little vanilla, raspberry, or pumpkin spice in the fall!
  • Blend in some caramel for an even more decadent drink!

🛍 Can I buy the white chocolate sauce?

Sure! It's easy to make your own sauce, but it's even easier to purchase it!

Fontana's White Chocolate Sauce is allegedly the same exact sauce Starbucks uses. It can be pricey to buy, but comes in a giant container and is enough for A LOT of white chocolate mochas!

A lot of people also like Ghirardelli White Chocolate Sauce or the generally less expensive Torani White Chocolate Sauce.

🔥 Can I make this drink hot?

Of course you can! I'll likely dedicate a full post to this soon, but it's really not difficult.

You'll make it the same way, but with hot espresso, steamed milk, and milk foam. Iced drinks are generally easier to make because there's no steaming or making foam involved, but sometimes you crave a hot mocha!

🍫 Can I make this without white chocolate?

If you're not the biggest fan of white chocolate, you might still love this drink (I do!). But you can also make a regular iced mocha by simply replacing the white chocolate sauce with regular chocolate sauce.

You can either buy a mocha sauce (like the one Starbucks uses or Ghirardelli) or you can make your own with the recipe in this post.
