Prayer to Saint Lucy
Saint Lucy,
whose beautiful name signifies light,
by the light of faith which
God bestowed upon you
increase and preserve His
light ain my soul
so that I may avoid evil and
be zealous in the performance
of good works,
and detest nothing so much as
the
blindness and the darkness
of evil and sin.
Obtain for me, by your
intercession with God
perfect vision for my bodily eyes
and the grace to use them for God's
greater honor and glory
and the salvation of souls.
St. Lucy, virgin and martyr
hear my prayers and obtain my petitions.
Amen.
Praying to St. Lucy Novena brings much-needed relief to patients suffering from eye disease, throat ailments, and hemorrhages.
About St. Lucy
Lucia of Syracuse also called Saint Lucia or Saint Lucy, a Christian martyr, and a saint is one of the eight women commemorated in the Holy Mass by the Roman Catholic Churches.
She is the patron saint of the blind, authors, cutlers, glaziers, laborers, martyrs, peasants, saddlers, salesmen, stained glass workers, and of Perugia, Italy.
She is invoked against hemorrhages, dysentery, diseases of the eye, and throat infections. She is venerated as a saint in the Roman Catholic, Anglican, Lutheran, and Eastern Orthodox churches.
St. Lucy’s Latin name “Lucia” shares its meaning with the Latin word lux, meaning light. According to history St. Lucy was born in a rich family to noble parents in the year 283 AD.
As a young girl, Lucy had consecrated her virginity to God and devoted her life to him. Lucy’s mother Eutychia, wanted her daughter to get married into a wealthy pagan family as she was suffering from a bleeding disorder and wanted to settle her life before her passing.
Lucy encountered St. Agatha in her dream while traveling to a pilgrimage in Catania in hope of her mother’s healing where she was promised a cure for her mother and was said that she will bring glory to Syracuse, upon her mother’s healing Lucy decided to give away her riches to the poor as an offering.
Upon hearing her distribution of jewels and gold Paschasius, the Governor of Syracuse ordered her to burn a sacrifice to the emperor’s image.
Upon her refusal, she was sentenced to be defiled in a brothel. She was saved by the Lord during her sacrifice but was killed by the sword into her throat

St. Lucy Novena – Day 1
Let us begin, In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
O St. Lucy, you preferred to let your eyes be torn out instead of denying the faith and defiling your soul; and God, through an extraordinary miracle, replaced them with another pair of sound and perfect eyes to reward your virtue and faith, appointing you as the protector against eye diseases.
I come to you for you to protect my eyesight and to heal the illness in my eyes.
O St. Lucy, preserve the light of my eyes so that I may see the beauties of creation, the glow of the sun, the colour of the flowers and the smile of children.
Preserve also the eyes of my soul, the faith, through which I can know my God, understand His teachings, recognise His love for me and never miss the road that leads me to where you, St. Lucy, can be found in the company of the angels and saints.
St. Lucy, protect my eyes and preserve my faith.
Amen.
