When TikTok first landed, it was far from the platform it has become today. At the time, trending dances and funny sketches were all you needed to succeed on TikTok. Who would have thought a few short years later it would be the fastest growing social media platform for creators, brands and businesses?

Along with stacks of new features to help businesses grow, TikTok has a highly engaged user base that uses the platform for product discovery and shopping inspiration.

Plus, you can now see exactly who has been viewing your TikTok profile. This is a game-changing feature for brands and creators who want to know exactly who is interested in their content. Here’s a full rundown of how to use this feature and its benefits for businesses (like you).

Does TikTok Tell You Who Viewed Your Profile?

Yes, TikTok has now rolled out a feature that – much like LinkedIn – allows you to see your TikTok profile views over the course of the last thirty days. It’s a handy addition for those of us using TikTok to grow our personal brand or business.

What makes this feature so interesting is that it gives you a real insight into what kind of users your TikTok content is attracting. Gone are the days of simply seeing an overview of your audience’s demographic, age and location.

With this profile viewing feature, you can dive into the exact users who are interested in your content and ensure the videos you’re sharing are directly relevant to their needs, goals and aspirations.

Plus, TikTok is such a powerful platform to be adding to your social media marketing mix. With huge potential for organic reach and skyrocketing user growth, there’s never been a better time to start experimenting with TikTok content.

So, how can you see who viewed your TikTok profile?

First of all, this feature hasn’t been rolled out universally (but many expect it will be expanded to all users in the months and years ahead). Currently, it’s only available to users over the age of 16 with fewer than 5,000 followers.

The latter restriction is likely due to the difficulty of managing a list of profile views over a certain length, and accounts with more followers would have extensive lists.

If the feature is available to you, it’s super easy to use. Unlike the verification process which can be a little tricky, this is a one-click solution.

You’ll see a new eye icon has appeared on your TikTok profile in the top right corner. Click on the eye, and you’ll be given the option of turning the feature on. Once you have, clicking on the eye again will show you a list of profile views in the least thirty days.

Simple.

Just be aware that while nobody else can see who viewed your profile but you, by activating the feature you’re consenting to allow others to see when you’ve viewed their profile.

Before you panic that competitors know you’ve been checking out their profiles, don’t worry. This is a feature you have to manually opt-in to, so unless you’ve clicked that eye icon and agreed to it, nobody knows when you’ve been snooping. You can also turn it off any time you like.

To switch it off, click the hamburger menu in your settings, select Settings, then Privacy, Privacy again, Profile Views, then Profile View History.

Benefits of Seeing Who Viewed Your TikTok Profile

You may be wondering at this point why you would want to know who has been viewing your profile. Aside from the curiosity factor, it offers you a great way to connect with other creators and boost your interactions. This is particularly important when your account is in its infancy, and your organic reach is limited.

Hone Your Audience

The value you get out of this feature will depend, to some extent, on your connection goals. If you’re looking to gain a greater understanding of who is engaging with your content so you can ensure you’re targeting is on point, this feature is great.

You can easily scroll through the profile views and check out the profiles of those watching you. Are they in your demographics? If not, what is it about your current content that’s attracting them and how can you tweak it to attract the right audience?

Nurture Relationships

Beyond that, when you know someone has viewed your profile you can go and view theirs. You can watch their videos, engage with their content and comment on a few relevant insights or witty observations. They will then likely respond in kind, and a rapport starts to build.

The whole point of this exercise is to build connections and relationships with your audience.

By proactively engaging with users who view your profile, you’ll be able to build meaningful relationships with your audience and develop valuable trust with them.

Gain Engaged Followers

An unengaged follower is someone who follows you but has no genuine interest in what you do. So they may stick around for a while, but they don’t really engage with your content beyond that initial follow. And if they do, they never take further action – they’re not going to buy from you if you have an offer to sell.

They’re just going to sit in your follower ranks and bring down your engagement rate.

On the flip side, by regularly reaching out to your profile viewers and fostering conversations with your audience, you can build an engaged follower base. This means that when the time comes for them to sign up, make a sale or take action, they’ll be ready to do so.

Why Engaged Followers Matter

A large follower count doesn’t hold a lot of value for your brand or business unless they’re engaged, too. Your followers can easily become a vanity metric if you’re not putting in the hard work to build relationships, foster connections and develop brand loyalty.

You could have a million followers, but if only 0.1% of those followers are engaged, you only have a thousand followers that are of any use. If, on the other hand, you have 10K followers and 20% of those followers are engaged, you have twice as many useful followers.

So, having a jumping-off point that gives you an excuse to interact (such as seeing if a person has viewed your TikTok profile) will help you build an engaged following. These types of relationships can also turn into collaborations, which put you in front of their audience and help you gain even more engaged followers.

And don’t forget that consistency is the real key to engaging any audience long-term. With Plann, we make it easy to plan, create and schedule your TikTok content in advance so you can spend more time fostering relationships with your audience.
