When you're on vacation or just out for the day, handheld cameras will store hundreds more photos than a typical cell phone. Most have removable storage cards so you can take lots of pictures without running out of space. With the provided USB cable or an optional SD storage card reader, you can transfer your high-resolution photographs and videos from your Panasonic Lumix to any Macintosh laptop.

USB Cable

  1. Turn off the Lumix camera if it's on.

  2. Plug the USB cable that came with your camera into the USB port on the side of the camera. Plug the other end into your Mac laptop. The small end goes into the small port on the camera. The large end goes into the standard USB port on the laptop.

  3. Turn on the Lumix camera. IPhoto automatically opens to import your photos. The camera also appears as a drive in the Finder window.

  4. Click on the photos you want to import. The thumbnails are outlined when you click them, indicating you've selected the photo. Click "Import Selection" to import only those photos. Or click "Import All" to import all the photos on your Lumix SD storage card.

  5. Click the "Finder" icon in your Dock and locate the Lumix drive in the left window pane. Click the "Eject" icon next to it, or drag the Lumix name to the "Trash" icon to eject the camera.

  6. Turn off the computer and unplug it from the USB cable.

SD Card Reader (optional)

  1. Open the battery door on the bottom of the Lumix camera.

  2. Press the edge of the SD storage card. It's spring loaded and will pop up so you can remove it.

  3. Place the SD storage card into the SD card reader on your Mac laptop. Some older laptops have an SD card reader built in. Many brands of external storage card readers also plug into your laptop through a USB port. IPhoto opens automatically when the card is inserted.

  4. Select the photos you want to import by clicking on them. Selected photos are outlined. Click "Import All" to import everything, or click "Import Selection" to only import the photos you selected.

  5. Click the "Finder" icon in your Dock. The SD card shows up as an external drive in the left window pane.

  6. Drag the SD card to the "Trash" icon or click the "Eject" icon to eject the card before you remove it from the reader.
