Google’s Gmail service is one of the most ubiquitous email apps on people’s smartphones today. If you own an iPhone and have never had a Gmail account before, here’s how to create a new Gmail account straight from your iPhone.

These days, almost everyone who has a computer or phone with access to the Internet owns an email account. Even your grandparents have one; how else are they going to forward all those jokes and chain letters to you?
It’s now easier than ever to use your phones to access important online services like email or social media. You can even create an account straight from your phone. This tutorial shows you how to create an email account on the Gmail platform directly from your iPhone.
Download and Install Gmail
On your iPhone, navigate to the App Store and search for Gmail. Click on Get to download the app. Once downloaded, click Open.
Create your Gmail Account
You’ll be greeted by a simple screen with the Gmail logo and a Sign In button at the bottom. Don’t worry if you don’t have an email account to sign in with yet. We’ll be doing that on the next screen.
If you don’t have an existing account already set up on Gmail, you can set up a new one here. Gmail lets you set up accounts with other services and use the Gmail app to access them, but we’ll be setting up an account using Google for this tutorial.
If you get the following prompt, make sure to allow it by clicking on Continue, as doing otherwise won’t let you continue creating the account.
On the next screen, click on Create Account. If you are creating a Gmail account for personal use, choose For myself and click Next.
Fill Up Your Personal Details
The sign-up process is fairly straightforward. Just fill up your name, date of birth, gender, and continue by clicking the Next button every time.
Choose Your Email Address
On the next screen, you’ll be able to pick or create your personal email address. As a default, Gmail will suggest a couple for you based on your name and birthday. Gmail has millions of active email accounts, so you may have to get creative if your name is a common one like John Smith. In this example, we’re choosing to create our own using our name and two random digits.
Create a Strong Password
Simple passwords like the name of your pet just won’t cut it anymore. Choose a strong password to use with your account. A good password should be a string of at least eight characters, with a mixture of lowercase and uppercase letters, numbers, and symbols.
Increase Account Security with a Phone Number
It’s recommended to add a phone number that you can use to retrieve your Gmail account if you lose access or it gets compromised. Input a valid phone number that you have access to and click Next.
You’ll almost immediately receive a six-digit code through text to enter on the next screen.
Review Your Account Information
After you’ve successfully verified your phone number, you can then review the information you’ve entered on the next screen. Check to see if the email address and phone number are correct. You can always go back to the previous screens to make changes by clicking on the bottom left button.
Agree to Privacy and Terms
Before you can go ahead and start using your account, though, you’ll first need to read and agree to Gmail’s Privacy and Terms.
Start Using Your New Gmail Account
And you’re finally at the finish line! You can now start using your newly minted Gmail account to send and receive email messages. Click on your account icon on the top right corner to manage your account or add more email accounts.
Don’t forget to allow notifications so that you don’t miss a single email message.
