What vehicles had a Dana 300 transfer case?

Jeep, IH, GM, and Ford all used versions of the Dana 300. Other benefits of the Dana 300 include its very compact dimensions, light weight (less than 100 pounds), and a cast iron case that is much stronger than the Dana 18 case.

How strong is a Dana 300 transfer case?

Broken cases or other components are only very rarely seen. The 300 uses all helically cut gears. It uses a large 1.25" intermediate shaft. The Dana 300 is strong enough from the factory to handle even the most potent engines and situations.

How do I know if my Dana 300 is a Dana 20?

The best way to tell them apart is knowing that the Dana 300 has an aluminum tailhousing for the rear output while the Dana 20's is cast iron, and the Dana 20 has a 1-inch-deep sump in the inspection cover while the Dana 300's is fairly smooth and flat.

How does a Dana 300 transfer case work?

The transfer case is connected to the transmission and front and rear axles via drive shafts. Power from the engine is sent through the transmission to the transfer case, which then relays that power to either the rear wheels in a two-wheel-drive vehicle, or to the front and rear wheels in a four-wheel-drive vehicle.
