To include a picture in Google search results, add your image to a website along with a description. While you can’t directly upload images into search results, searchable images posted on a website can show up in our search results.

Add your image to the web

  1. Post your image to a website

If you'd like your photograph or image to appear in Google search results, you'll need to post the image on a website. If you don't own a website, here are some content hosting services that you can use at no charge:

    • Add the images to a blog using Blogger
    • Create your own website using Google Sites
  2. Make sure the image you post is public and searchable

By posting the image on a public and searchable website, you'll make it possible for Google to find your image and add it to the Images index. When you upload the image, make sure that the page your image is on is publicly accessible. For example, if you posted the photo on Google+, make sure the privacy setting was Public.

Tips to help your image appear in Search

To help your image appear in Google search results, follow these image publishing guidelines:

  • Include descriptive text. Include text somewhere near the image, like an "alt" tag or a caption. This helps Google understand what the image is showing and what searches it relates to.
  • Upload high-quality photos. Great image content is an excellent way to build traffic to your site.

Finally, be patient. Images you upload to the web won’t instantly appear in search results. You’ll need to wait until your site is indexed by Google before your images show up in search results.

You can choose a photo to set as your Gmail profile picture. This image shows up when someone sees your name in their email inbox or chat list. If they use an iPhone or iPad, the image may also appear in the notifications of incoming chat messages you send them.

Your Gmail profile picture is the same as your Google Account picture. Learn how to change your Google Account name and other info.

After you insert a picture into your notes, you might realize that it shows more than you want or need. For example, a photo you’ve taken with your cell phone might show too much background. Rather than trimming the picture, which you can’t do in OneNote, you can take a screen clipping of the image to capture just the part that you want to keep.

  1. After inserting the picture you want to crop, click in a blank area of the page to make sure that the picture isn’t selected.

  2. Press the Windows logo key+Shift+S to start a screen clipping.

  3. When the screen dims, drag a selection over just the part of the image that you want to keep.

Your screen clipping is sent immediately to your clipboard so that you can paste it into any application, including OneNote.

  4. On any page in your notes, click where you want the screen clipping to appear, and then press Ctrl+V to paste it.
