Thanks Intrepid. Where on the engine is this? Back, front, top, bottom? There is so much bolted to the engine it's hard to locate. Thanks!

It is located by the starter motor, front center. Easier access if you take the front motor mount bracket off.

The front of the engine faces the right front tire. If I take the front motor mount off, the engine will fall,
correct?

The starter is behind the RADIATOR low center(FRONT OF CAR). Good hunting!
The 2012 Dodge Avenger, which comes with a 2.4L engine, holds its camshaft in a mounted position on top of the cylinder head, which lies towards the front side of the car. It can be found exactly beneath the timing belt cover, which doesnt need to be removed to access the camshaft. If Youre having trouble finding it, consult Your owners manual. This should contain a detailed illustration or visual guide as to where exactly all of the components are located inside the car, underneath the hood. Camshafts are an integral part of the engine, as they contribute directly to the ignition systems, as well as speed control systems.

The camshaft position sensor is mounted on the cylinder head in front and beneath the timing belt cover of the 2012 dodge avenger 2.4 L.
